Overview

After ten years of exile, Lady Claire returns to England, only to find herself thrust into a vortex of terror and intrigue when she overhears a plot to assassinate the new king, Charles II. To capture all the traitors, she enters into a plot with the king and marries Lord Barrington, a prime suspect and enemy of her family, and spies for the crown.

Though the handsome cavalier obeys the king's commend to wed Claire, he resolves to stay out of Claire's bed because he believes she's one of Charles's mistresses. Besides, he's heard rumors that Claire poisoned her first husband. Since a woman almost murdered him once, Barrington is in no hurry to become a victime again--no matter how desirable he find his new bride.

His suspicions strenghten when an assailant makes two attempts on his life, and all the evidence points to Claire.

Editorial Reviews

2008
"Lady Claire's Cavlier tempts the reader with a tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of an intricate assassination plot. Ms. Neal pints an authentic picture of the opulence and pageantry of a time, where greed and lust often took precedence over loyalty and honor."
