TO DANCE FOR THE VIRGIN QUEEN

Commanded by her grandfather to marry a noble husband, beautiful, headstrong Anne Blanchemain enters the lavish court of Queen Elizabeth. A lamb among wolves, she is easy prey to treachery and an aging queen's jealousy.

Christopher Hollier has only one interest-reclaiming the title of Lord Graistan for his invalid brother.

But the dangerous dance of plots to defy crown and country sweep them into events that may ultimately cost them their lives, and their love.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
This atmospheric historical narrative is set in the court of Queen Elizabeth I, a time and place rife with political and anti-Catholic intrigue and the ever-present threat of losing one's head. Country-bred heiress Anne Blanchemain, who has come to serve Elizabeth, finds herself the pawn of her fanatically Protestant grandfather and the object of a wronged and vengeful noblewoman's plot. Kit Hollier, who has pledged his life and honor to regain his family's lost titles, is coerced into seducing Anne, but instead finds himself as her dancing instructorby monarch's orderto improve the unpolished Anne's skills. Well-written, well-researched, with an accurate portrayal of Elizabeth I, it's a little slow-moving until the plots finally thicken. Domning Autumn's Flame throws in too many `twases and `tisn'ts, but this is otherwise recommended. Jan.
Library Journal
Departing from the medieval settings of her earlier books, Domning has written a compelling tale that brings the Elizabethan Renaissance to life with startling clarity. She deftly peels away the layers of treachery and intrigue that surround the glittering royal court to expose the self-interest and corruption hidden beneath. A nave, reluctant heiress out to find a suitable husband and a guilt-ridden hero who agrees to ruin her in order to regain his family's wealth and title propel the plot of this page-turner. This well-written, realistic, and vividly descriptive story does an excellent job with a difficult time period. Domning (A Love for All Seasons, LJ 11/15/96) lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.

    Good story

The overview made a mistake ...it said Lord Graistan. I thought this story would be about another generation of the family in previous novels. I like this author and this was a good story. Sometimes I don't care what the characters are wearing that day....but it mostly moves along nicely.

    Good plot

This story carried quite the plots. As romance novels go this was nit typical. There was a lot to follow with the dialogue to understand what is going on and so on. I found some refernce in the dialogue a little challenging to follow at times. Overall, thought, it was fine.

The characters were well enough developed, and tge author's voice did a good job of creating emotion and suspense.
She portrayed accuracy to the time of Queen Elizabeth and all the political folly you had to negotiate around just to stay in favor of the queen, as well as to stay alive.

Again, this is not a thin veiled romance book, but a well plotted out story with romance in it.
