New to Steampunk, and I'm enjoying it. Mechanika, is a character that should be around for quite some time. Just purchased the next issue, and looking forward to reading it. The only negative thing I can say about this book is that it is just too short.

Steampunk works best as a visual medium and I always thought that it would fit well into the world of comics. Seems I'm not the only one. This book is short but also holds great potential for future issues. The artwork is sharp and full of shadows and the characters are visually unique and fit into this alternate universe. Lady Mechanika is cut from the Buffy/Lost Girl mode - hot, tough and fucused - in search of her story and the villian is the oft seen villianous Brit with a new angle; he is a greedy man of buiness willing to do anything to advance his companys interest. This gives him a more adult story arc to follow breaking away from the misguided pyscho being controlled by demonic interest that have become so common in this genre. But it's the artwork that makes steampunk unique and I want to see a more of the world these chacters inhabit. The foundations are all there - reinvented common objects, reimagined history, great character design - and I,m confident that the rest of the series won't disappoint. I really enjoyed this comic and can't wait to continue with the series. Highly recommended. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
