Overview

A classic Signet Regency from Amanda McCabe featuring a woman of means who always knows what she wants...until she meets her heart's desire.

Although she is not one of the ton, independently wealthy Georgina Beaumont is accepted by them--not merely because of her lifelong friendship with a titled lady, but because she is an artist whose portraits grace the walls of society's elite. A fiery spirit with a strong, independent will, she has proven herself the equal of any man--and believes she needs none to make her happy.

Alexander Kenton, the Duke of Wayland, retired from military service only to discover that his brother gambled away his family's entire fortune, leaving his mother and sister almost destitute. Only by marrying within the aristocracy can he help his family regain their place in society. But Alexander has fallen in love with Georgina, and he's afraid that she'll think he's only after her money. Even worse, he's afraid that she truly doesn't want to be married...

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
On a visit from Italy to visit her closest friend in London, widowed artist Georgina Beaumont meets Alexander Kenton, the Duke of Wayland, when he rescues her dog from drowning. They are immediately attracted to one another and their affection grows as they attend various balls, salons, and excursions together. These tepid events form what passes for plot in this Regency, whose anachronistic language and manners fails to create a solid sense of the period. The idea that pride is the only obstacle to their marriage is not convincingly developed. Not recommended. Amber Tatnall, York Cty. She is called Lady Rogue by a society which accepts her work as an artist, but will never accept her as a lady of quality. When Alex, the inpoverished Duke of Wayland, realizes he has come to love Georgina Beaumont, he's afraid her fortune will stand in the way of their relationship. Georgina cares little for money, but is afraid that the ton will never accept her as a duchess, and that Alex will want her to change. Even the bond of their love may not be enough to prevent pride and recklessness from separating them. Amanda McCabe has finally turned her considerable talents to Georgina's story, and is fabulously successeful at finding her the right man. This is a love story created by the sure, deft strokes of a master!
