Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"I wanted them all, even those I'd already read."
—Ron Rosenbaum, The New York Observer

"Small wonders."
Time Out London

"[F]irst-rate…astutely selected and attractively packaged…indisputably great works."
—Adam Begley, The New York Observer

"I’ve always been haunted by Bartleby, the proto-slacker. But it’s the handsomely minimalist cover of the Melville House edition that gets me here, one of many in the small publisher’s fine 'Art of the Novella' series."
The New Yorker

"The Art of the Novella series is sort of an anti-Kindle. What these singular, distinctive titles celebrate is book-ness. They're slim enough to be portable but showy enough to be conspicuously consumed—tiny little objects that demand to be loved for the commodities they are."
—KQED (NPR San Francisco)

"Some like it short, and if you're one of them, Melville House, an independent publisher based in Brooklyn, has a line of books for you... elegant-looking paperback editions ...a good read in a small package."
The Wall Street Journal

    FadingStar

FadingStar leaps on a Rock, looking a bit sad but determined. "Clan Meeting! Crimsonstar has not been seen in over a week, and as Deputy of PathClan, I have taken the trip to the Moon Pool and received my Nine Lives. If Crimsonstar returns, I will give him back Leadership, but until that should happen, I want to lay down a few Rules for the betterment of this Clan. Firstly, this Clan was founded under the idea of a Realistic, Drama-free Clan that any Cat could join without being Ignored. To enforce this, from now on, no Cat is allowed to RolePlay him/herself being attacked or injured. There will be no Mate-begging or squabbling amongst Members. Any of these things will be Ignored. However, other than Cats doing one of those three things, all are to be Welcomed and never Ignored. PathClan will be completely Power-free, and Cats only can be Members. Within a week I will choose a Deputy to help me lead. Please do not nominate yourself for the Position. I will choose based on Activeness, Helpfulness, and a general tendency to follow the Ideals PathClan was founded on. We also need a Medicine Cat. I do expect our Warriors to help Advertise for this Clan. We especially need Warriors and Apprentices." FadingStar pauses, then meows, "Clan Dismissed."

    Wonderfully Fascinating

I just discovered this Austen work and I loved it! It kept me guessing until the very end, however it did not take long to realize what a horrific person Lady Susan was.
