A must read for adults and children alike!

Marshall shares the many values and ethics of the Lakota Indians by devoting a chapter to each category. A native story is given to illustrate the ethic and Marshall leads us into it with meaningful background information. This book touches the heart and unleashes compassion and inspiration in the reader. I believe this should be a required reading in schools. It also lends itself to reading of the stories to young children and to philosophical discussion in adults. Marshall is a master of the written word. There is no doubt that this book contributes to peace and good moral development.

Inspiring Book regarding quality characters for people to emulate!

The book is written so very well. I love the stories that are told that reinforce the character traits all people should display. What a testament to the Lakota people and all Native American people who have endured and perservered over these hundreds of years!

    Definitely a must-read!

"The Lakota Way" is a magnificently written book that will enrich your life in many ways. Each chapter is dedicated to a virtue essential to the Lakota (better known as the Sioux) people. Mr. Marshall masterfully paints a picture of each virtue by sharing traditional stories passed down through the generations. Important lessons in life are wonderfully illustrated and can easily be connected to modern day life. He incorporates his own fascinating life story throughout, providing additional insight into Lakota beliefs and customs. A historical overview featuring tribe development, ceremonies, battles, heroes, and relocation makes this a wonderfully enlightening read as well. For instance, the compelling story of Crazy Horse, "whose humility outshone his fame", was utterly captivating.

Mr. Marshall is truly a gifted storyteller with an engaging and eloquent writing style. The book was very easy to read and impossible to put down. I absolutely loved it! It's an absolutely wonderful book and I highly recommend it for everyone!

    more from this reviewer

    The Lakota Way

I was drawn to the Lakota Indian's a few years back when I saw a PBS documentary on them. Browsing through the aisle of a B&N in Oregon a few months back while passing through on a run up to Portland, I came across The Lakota Way. The cover first caught my eye and after reading a little, I was hooked like an addict! Mr. Marshall provides thought provoking, timeless stories shared through out his life and the life of the Lakota natives that will leave you smiling, crying & reflecting on our world......Without a doubt, one of the top 3 books I have ever read in my life time. I have ordered 3 more of Mr. Marshall's books just this evening, and will be ordering many more to pass on to others. I encourage you to buy this book. www.theasphaltblogger.com

    Wonderfu and funny

What a wonderful and funny book. These are the ways of life that we, indeed, need to return to. If we were all to follow Mr. Marshall's lead this world would be beyond GREAT to live in.

    Compelling

This is one of the best books that I have read. Mr. Marshall uses the Lakota tradition of storytelling to explain the basic virtues and values of life in a way that speaks right to your heart. This is one of those books that will stay with you for a long time to come. A MUST read!!

    A must read!!!!!!!!!

A wonderful journey into the heart of Native American culture. I have never had a book move me so very much. It reminded me of my own grandmother, who in her own gentle way, would enrich us with her wisdom. When I read the passage of his grandfather's death, I wept in the understanding that these simple words speak to the heart of us all. If you read anything this year, let it be this!!!
