Overview

After countless musical trials and tribulations, Cordero was finally born. Named after singer and founder Ani Cordero, the band plays a hybrid sort of thing. It's New York-based, Latin-tinged, bilingual, indie Southern rock at its finest, not that there are very many other New York-based, Latin-tinged, bilingual, indie Southern rock bands to compare them to. Perhaps the title sums up Ani Cordero's feeling upon arriving in New York after living in Atlanta and Tucson. Or maybe it's just a ruse to throw you off your game. You'll have to find out for yourself, and you'll enjoy the musical search for the truth in this Lamb Lost in the City. It seems Cordero has found a niche not yet filled, and with the ever-growing Latin American stateside population, it could end up being a very large niche. For this is not the sweet, hip-swiveling Latin music you might be accustomed to or expecting. No, no, no -- this record rocks hard, with walls of distorted guitars; loud, banging drums; and thumping basslines. Not your traditional fare. However, to please the throwbacks, Cordero tacks "Todo Por Ti" on as the closing track. Tango, if you must, to one of the most historic and heartbreaking tales ever sung. Bueno!
