Overview

In Book Three of BJ Hoff's bestselling Emerald Ballad saga set near the middle of the 19th century, Irish patriot Morgan Fitzgerald, felled by a gunman's bullet, strives to restore his life and reclaim his future. But even as he takes steps to provide a home for Belfast orphan Annie Delaney and nurture his love for the beautiful, mute Finola, he finds himself again locked in a fierce battle with the powers of darkness.

In America, Morgan's friends Michael Burke and Nora Whittaker discover that the "Land of Opportunity" also teems with poverty, injustice, and corruption. From the opulence of Fifth Avenue to the squalor of the city's slums, he fights against not only the evil running riot through the streets, but the immoral schemes of an old enemy bent on destroying Michael, the woman he loves, and his only son.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati J.D.
The serene cover of a fair-haired young woman amid a lush Irish landscape belies the turmoil in the pages of this saga spanning the Atlantic from Dublin to New York City. Some of the disturbing themes include rape, slavery, human sacrifice, and prostitution. The author spins an interesting tale with sympathetic characters; however, the New York City chapters aren't integrated with the parts of the story set in Ireland. The author could easily have written two separate books. Good versus evil—everything boils down to this in both tales. The very first time a character is introduced, readers will know what side he/she is on. There is redemption for two minor characters that are able to tame their inner demons and change from bad to good. Vivid writing and many plot twists will please Christian fiction devotees. There is much "telling," instead of "showing," when it comes to the inner thoughts of child characters. These characters sound like adults when they reflect on circumstances, predicaments, etc. Each chapter is preceded by quotes from the Bible or from Irish poets and patriots. An author's note discussing Christianity in Ireland's history is found at the back of the book. This title is Book 3 in the "Emerald Ballad" series. Reviewer: Jeanne K. Pettenati, J.D.

    Don't miss this one!

Every book I read by B.J. Hoff leaves me wanting more and I highly recommend Land of a Thousand Dreams. Her mastery for creating vivid characters coupled with an engrossing story makes her one of today's leading names in Inspirational Fiction.
