When the album Land Of Make Believe by Chuck Mangione came out in the 70's I was young and full of hope. Over the years I lost track of that album and was thrilled to see it listed on B&N website. This CD is warm with memories of happy times, great music and life full of dreams and plans. Many i fulfilled many I have not but this music is everlasting in it's greatness.

I AM 32 SO I WAS MAYBE 2 WHEN THIS WAS RECORDED BUT AS A CHILD MY FATHER PLAYED THIS RECORD EVERY SATURDAY MORNING AND I NEVER REALLY THOUGHT MUCH OF IT BUT WHEN HE PASSED AFEW YEARS AGO I WENT LOOKING FOR IT AND IT STILL STANDS THE TEST OF TIME THE MUSIC IS UPLIFTING AND HELPS ME REMEMBER SOME OF THOSE SATURDAYS WITH MY FATHER LISTENING TO THIS GREAT ALBUM.

Though much less expansive than Mangione's other Mercury concerts only 37 minutes on a single CD or LP, Land of Make Believe is the most successful of the lot, a winning combination of attractive tunes, big-thinking orchestrations, just enough jazz content, and a genuinely felt sense of idealism. Here there is no dead weight; all of the material is very engaging and the combined forces of Mangione's quartet and the Hamilton Ontario Philharmonic are on fire. The performance of Mangione's "Legend of the One-Eyed Sailor" still exerts a ferocious jolt of life-affirming energy, "El Gato Triste" is an attractive Latin number, and the buoyant "Gloria" from The Mass of St. ...
