Editorial Reviews

From The Critics
Reviewer: Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP(Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)
Description: This is the 48th edition of a comprehensive book that covers the majority of topics that primary care physicians would encounter in their office. This is published yearly to stay current with changes in treatment.
Purpose: The editor succinctly outlines what is different and new in this edition. Maintaining this currency is a monumental task and the editor has done a very respectable job in accomplishing this.
Audience: This is for everyone looking for medical information, from practicing physicians to patients and family members. There is very little unnecessary text and the book is quite easy to use with a modicum of medical knowledge.
Features: The book is organized by organ systems and by diagnoses within systems. Each section, where appropriate, has general considerations, clinical findings, differential diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. There are limited references where they support recent changes, and some tables where helpful but not in overwhelming numbers. The one shortcoming is the limited number of pertinent pictures, which would be really beneficial in the dermatologic areas. The index is helpful as are the ICD-9 codes listed on the cover.
Assessment: This book has the benefit of being updated yearly and thusly has stood the test of time for recognizing what is helpful and what works. It is well worth the price and a great addition to a primary care practitioner's library.

    Class lectures simplified and organized

I really enjoy CURRENT because it supports the information we are getting in class. Some teachers are less organized than others, so it's a nice summary and clarifies a lot of the differentials as well. I am so thankful my professor made me aware of this book, it has helped me immensely.

    Worth the buy...

Very useful in clinical practice, up-to-date, and has current research to support new interventions for disease conditions.
