Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP (Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)
Description: This is an update of a study guide last published in 2007.
Purpose: It is designed to help medical students prepare for the internal medicine portion of the USMLE examination and as such focuses on the absolute minimum knowledge needed for the examination.
Audience: The audience is somewhat limited to third- and fourth-year medical students on their internal medicine clinical rotations who are preparing for their board examinations. The author is an assistant professor at the University of Toronto and the student reviewers are listed as class of 2009.
Features: The question-and-answer format includes explanations of why an answer is correct and why the other answers are incorrect. This is a useful way to point out subtle issues students may not grasp with an explanation only of the correct answer.
Assessment: With its limited audience, this is a nice book for a medical school library.
