Overview

Miss Kristin Anderson had never left home before, but no one was going to stop her from going to Montana to take possession of Larkspur, the ranch she had inherited. She didn't know she'd have to outsmart gunslingers and a land grabber named Forsythe.

Despite her brother's objections, 23-year-old Kristin Anderson makes the dangerous journey to Montana to take possession of Larkspur, the ranch she has inherited. Once there, she discovers that the hazards she faced on the trip were only the first of many obstacles she would have to overcome--including gunslingers and landgrabbers--to keep the ranch. But these trials pale in comparison to the havoc the ranch foreman wreaks on Kristin's heart when together they fight for the land they both love. Ads in People and Martha Stewart Living. Original. Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Veteran author Garlock dusts off the time-honored, land-grab plot and brings Kristin Anderson to 1880s Big Timber Montana, a town choked by vicious corruption. The determined, young city woman, manages to keep her inheritance, find gutsy friends, and get the help of rancher Buck Lenning. Garlock's narrative and dialogue lend rich visual, almost cinematic, flavor which is nicely complemented by a fistful of mangy thugs and the complex character of hired killer, Del Gomer. In a curious twist, loyal friends must face ranch marauders while Buck rescues Kristin, who has been kidnapped by a headstrong Indian. Though the romance evolves rather too effortlessly, Garlock's secondary story of a few brave souls attempt to restore a justice, is deftly handled. (Feb.)

    AN ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS READ!!!!!

I am a mother and housewife. Once the kids are in bed I like to sit down and read a good book. Nothing annoys me more than wasting what little time I have on a horrible, boring book. This was the first Dorothy Garlock book I have ever read. A friend lent it to me and I could not put it down. I currently am now going back and reading all her books. I am an avid reader. I have found another excellent author who I can't wait to enjoy. I recommend this book to anyone who likes action with some romance. In my opinion, this is a MUST READ!!!

    One of the Best'

Everyone of Ms Garlocks books is a winner, but this book is one of her better, because she brings together many of her former characters. I think she is an outstanding author who lets the reader feel like she or he is in the particular era she happens to be writeing about.
