Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Patrick Hunter
Rustad gives a basic overview of the process of leaves changing color during the fall using both Spanish/English. Little depth is given for those who are looking for the real scientific process, but readers are told in simple text that when the weather turns colder, leaves change various colors and then fall to the ground, leaving trees bare. This information is displayed in both English and Spanish on each page, with English at the top. The corresponding photos that illustrate the easy-to-read text are large and striking. A glossary, index, and table of contents are also provided in both English and Spanish. The drawback of the glossary is the words are listed alphabetically and do not correspond to the order of the other language's list, but each list contains the same words. Additionally, glossary words are not highlighted in any way in the text. Addition information on the Web is provided though a convoluted process of entering in a 13-digit code on which then "retrieves" other Web sites, which are general in nature instead of being specific to the book's subject. They are also primarily in English instead of being bilingual. Despite these problems, this entry in the "Todo acerca del otono/All About Fall" series would be a decent addition to a classroom or library; especially one with bilingual speakers or where multiple languages are encouraged/studied.
