Las Niñas represent an honest and heart-felt account of first generation Latinas, American-born girls, who grew up in a Mexican cultural cocoon, to open it and converge in to their outgoing personalities into middleclass ethnic America. The authoress provides a most candid and enlightening perspective of growing up in America in the Latino barrio.

If you have daughters, if you have sisters, if you have family members that need a shot of earthly reality, you should buy them this book. Buy 6 at a time... believe me we all have at least that many family members that need to have their reality lifted. I won't describe the story(s) other than to say each was beautifully written with a beginning, middle and end to each and a whole thought and lesson to be learned and appreciated in each of the 20 chapters. Sarah and Las Ninas had a loving and demonstrative father and a beautiful and brave mother. Las Ninas also had loving Abuelitas, Tias, Tios and Primas that have remained loving and involved in their lives providing them with love, support, faith family, fiesta, memoria and suenos. Keep this book in your library for inspiration and buy several to give to friends. This is truly a remarkable story about a loving extended and accomplished family. Was this review helpful?
