DICK TERESI is the coauthor of The Three-Pound Universe and a former editor of Omni magazine. He lives in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Jeff Hecht is Boston correspondent for New Scientist magazine, contributing editor to Laser Focus World, and author of many magazine articles. He holds a B.S. in electronic engineering, and has written about laser technology for over 20 years.
