The toe of Tanner's boot tapped along to the music, the only thing on him that moved as he leaned back against the bar, elbows resting on it. Well, that and his eyes, watching the dancers and the cowboys playing pool.
He'd done pretty well at the rodeo, made enough to keep going, and he had a little to spend, too. Too bad he didn't have anything to spend it on. Or rather, anyone. Looked like these lowland types thought he was a bit too big. The way they looked at him he felt like Bigfoot, maybe, or Goliath, which was probably not them at all, just his own shit playing tricks on him.
Didn't make it any easier, though, and Tanner'd just about given up and decided to buy a six pack and head back to his trailer when he saw the little bowlegged blonde.
Damn.
Now that? Was nice.
Coming right toward him, too, with a little sway and a little swagger and one of those wide-shoulder, tiny waist bodies that promised a fine ass. Old enough to know what he was doing, young enough to be happy to be there, the man knew everybody, nodding and chatting and heading his way.
Lord, it was enough to make a man drool. Tanner figured he'd better just put his tongue back in his mouth and stop staring, so he did just that, sipping his beer. Trying to play it cool. He was leaning on the bar, after all.
Man probably just wanted a drink.
That same probably-just-wanted-a-drink man wandered up, stood right beside him and gave him a hat-tip and a grin. "Howdy."
Tipping his own hat down, then pushing it back up to get a good look, Tanner nodded. "Hey."
Down boy.
