Overview

Kazu Kibuishi's #1 New York Times bestselling graphic novel series continues!

Emily and her friends think they'll find the help they need in Cielis, but something isn't right. Streets that were once busy are deserted, and the townspeople who are left live in fear. Emily is escorted to the Academy, where she's expected to compete for a spot on the Guardian Council, a group of the most powerful Stonekeepers. But as the number of competitors gets smaller and smaller, an awful secret is slowly uncovered -- a secret that, if left buried, means the certain destruction of everything Emily fights for.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Praise for the Amulet series:
"Five -- no, three pages into Amulet and you'll be hooked." -- Jeff Smith, creator of BONE
"Stellar artwork, imaginative character design, moody color and consistent pacing." -- Publishers Weekly
"A must for all fantasy fans." -- Kirkus Reviews
Children's Literature - Michael Jung PhD
When readers last left Emily and her family in The Cloud Searchers, they had navigated past incredible obstacles to arrive at Cielis, the fabled city in the clouds where the Guardian Council, a group of the most powerful Stonekeepers in existence, is rumored to reside. Yet as Emily—a fledgling Stonekeeper herself—prepares to compete for a seat on the Council, she finds the floating city is full of nothing but empty streets and only a small handful of people who claim the city is populated by ghosts. Meanwhile, Emily's lost friends Miskit and Cogsley find a puzzle of their own when they encounter an old Stonekeeper who warns them of the fear and corruption within the Guardian Council. As these new and old friends find each other, they uncover a terrible secret about Cielis and the Stonekeepers that may threaten the salvation they hoped to find. Writer/artist Kibuishi creates additional layers of mystery and intrigue in his "Amulet" graphic novel series, which continues to successfully merge whimsical characters with dark epic adventure. Kibuishi's art continues to be as versatile as ever and readers can look forward to paintings of vast alien landscapes populated by humans, robots, and baby dragons. Newcomers may want to read some of the earlier volumes in this series, however, as the story's plots and subplots have become much more complicated and new readers may not be able to keep track of the relationships between the characters and the intricate history of the Stonekeepers. "Amulet Book Four." Reviewer: Michael Jung, PhD

For getting me addicted to this series (I saw that alot of people were buying this series and sure enough wanted to see what was all the fuss about....I ended up buying all four volumes!!! not all at once mind you...but as soon as I finished reading the first volume...I couldn't stop...there goes my "mad money" stash)...but well worth the money. I'll pay any artist/comic artist for a create story line with amazing artwork that keeps me hooked. Though I am a penny pincher sometimes its just better to get 'em while there hot...if you know what I mean.

Amulet: The Last Council by Kazu Kibuishi is the fourth book in this series. I had not read the previous three before beginning this novel. The first thing I noticed when thumbing through the pages is the amazing artwork. I wish I had pictures to show but I don't think it would do this book justice. I was able to follow the story line fairly well. I'm sure if I went back and read the first three books I would have more of the back story but it is a good stand alone as well. The story is about a girl named Emily. She's on her way to Cielis to meet with the Guardian Council. Things and people are not what they seem. The town is like a ghost town. Emily needs to learn to trust her own instincts. Even friends can be foes. She also finds unlikely allies unexpectedly. There's also a few comic relief characters that are funny. I think the story line is good. I think this book is good for grahic novel lovers. I'd also recommend this book to middle graders. My middle grader was instantly drawn to this novel and practically snatched it out of my hands. I don't read a lot of graphic novels but I wouldn't mind reading the next book in the series as well as the previous ones.
