Overview

Ella Sheridan has failed them again. One shortcoming after another, this is just the latest disappointment in what Ella sees as a lifetime spent not measuring up. Her family's pristine image about to be shattered when the nation learns the vice president's daughter has cancer. Ignoring her mother's strict security mandates against commercial travel, Ella books herself on a flight bound for Los Angeles to share her difficult diagnosis first with a trusted friend. She has no idea that someone with evil intentions has other plans for her. Dezi has just landed the job of his career. Ruggedly handsome and entirely focused on himself, he has made his photography work priority number one. As he heads to L.A. for the shoot, he has absolutely no interest in a new relationship, until one literally falls into his lap. His clumsy introduction to Ella leads to the deepest, most intense encounter either of them has ever had. Ahmed is the son of an Iraqi woman and a British man, doctors who cherished their brilliant boy until they died in the bombing of a Baghdad hospital. As he watches a rising star in American politics tell her nation the dead citizens are an acceptable loss in the pursuit of a greater good, Ahmed focuses singularly on her as the perpetrator of his personal tragedy. Guided by an obsessive need for vengeance, Ahmed builds the skills he will need to punish her for taking away all that he loved. Will a woman who has sacrificed and clawed her way to the White House follow protocol, or her heart, when she learns her daughter is in mortal danger? Can Ella and Dezi's fragile new passion survive both a wicked vendetta, and a potentially deadly disease that could take one of them out forever? "Last Flight Out" is the story of being true to who you are, facing regrets, and maybe having the chance to set things right before it's too late. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to organizations dedicated to fighting breast cancer across New Hampshire.

    Couldn't Put it Down!

Last Flight Out is a thrill ride - beginning to end.

I usually have a collection of books on my night stand, and I'll alternate reading each every night. When I picked up Vaughn's book, I couldn't put it down. Literally. I think I was up for two hours the first night reading it. And those other books? Forget about it.

Vaughn's writing style and character development are almost consuming. You will be completely and utterly engrossed - and will love every minute of it.

I hear through the grapevine that she's working on a second book. I can't wait.

    Gripping storyline

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline was interesting and took me to other parts of the world. It kept me on the edge one minute with its intriguing dialogue and the next it mixed in romantic and sexy repartee. Clever writing. Worthwhile read.

Last Flight Out by Jennifer Vaughn

An outstanding read! This book was full of characters who were rich and well-developed, and felt like members of my family. Do yourself a favor and go pick up a copy--you'll love it!

    HIGHLY recommend - love it!

This was a great adventure from beginning to end - I was so quickly involved in the character's lives that I felt they were real and couldn't wait to find out what would happen next.

Told all my friends to buy a copy and I know two book clubs now reading it and equally intrigued!

    This is the perfect book!

    Never got there.

Two big problems that put me off before even cracking a page: high pricing for both versions and editing.

I'm usually more likely to gamble on new books if they're priced competitively, as I think most readers are apt to do in this recession. I will, though, if it looks promising enough. And this book certainly did. It seemed like an entertaining read.

But sadly, I got no farther than the synopsis and had to pull up due to editing issues. As a reader, I usually take this as a red flag that the quality of the book might be lacking as well, and I have to ask if I still want to gamble.

(The problems? First, it's in a solid block of text. Second, the opening sentences are grammatically incorrect and don't make sense: One shortcoming after another, this is just the latest disappointment in what Ella sees as a lifetime spent not measuring up. Her family's pristine image about to be shattered when the nation learns the vice president's daughter has cancer. Third, why is the terrorist a part Iraqi named Ahmed? Really?)

    It's too bad.
