Overview

"I had not known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed on to marry."

Elizabeth Bennet's furious response to Mr. Darcy's marriage proposal in Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice has resonated for generations of readers. But what if she never had a chance to say it? Would she learn to recognize Mr. Darcy's admirable qualities on her own? The Last Man in the World follows Elizabeth and Darcy as they struggle to find their way through the maze of their prejudices after Elizabeth, against her better judgment, agrees to marry Darcy instead of saying those famous words. Two of the most beloved characters in English literature explore the meaning of true love on a tumultuous and passionate journey to make a success of their marriage.

THE PEMBERLEY VARIATIONS by Abigail Reynolds is a series of novels exploring the roads not taken in Pride & Prejudice.

    I Also Recommend:

The Last Man in the World is by far my favorite book by Abigail Reynolds.

Touching, at times heartbreaking as Elizabeth and Darcy misunderstand and misread the others intentions. This book is by far my favorite Abigail Reynolds "what if" book. The book is based on what would have happened if Darcy asked Elizabeth to marry him at Roslings and did not give her the chance to say no. The growth of the characters and the depth of their love for one another shines though in the end. Must read for any true Jane Austen fan.

Not the Lizzy Bennet I know

I've read most of Reynolds' Austen variations, but this one misses. Her Lizzy Bennet has very little in common with Austen's. It's well written, but it does Lizzy's character an injustice.

    I Also Recommend:

    X rated Pride and Prejudice

This alternative to Jane Austen's plot of Pride and Prejudice comes with an "X" rating, very detailed sexual situations, making sex formost on both Darcy and Elizabeth's mind. Not for the Jane Austen purist, the story is good, but so much sex clouds the plot.

    I Also Recommend:

Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy : The Last Man in the World

This book was really well written and I felt that the book did a great job of describing the differences in how Elizabeth and Darcy might have misinterpreted things causing problems to arise and how they finally work things out. This book was a very interesting read that I enjoyed reading.
