With science fairs a standard in almost every school, this book addresses our common habit of procrastination and attempts to save us from the consequences. All is not lost. You can still ask legitimate science questions and find answers even when your deadline is looming. The book begins with a short description of science fair presentations and then offers experiments. For those with still a week or two left, there are ten possibilities, most of which involve growing plants or fungus. For those with only a couple of days, there are thirteen more possibilities. And finally, for kids that have put this off until the day before, there are twenty-two possibilities. The projects are clearly presented with a brief explanation of the topic being studied, well-labeled questions, hypothesis, and recipe-type experiments, as well as display tips. In some ways the book does too much work for the kids. On the other hand, sometimes we all need help. The book also includes extension questions for each experiment, suggesting the reader keep going, even if it is not included in the science fair project. For an experiment on plants growing in the dark, the extension question asks: "How long can plants survive in the dark? Extend the experiment to last for a month instead of two weeks." While there is a vast sea of experiment books available, this book's organization by deadline is unique and will undoubtedly appeal to last-minute doers. Back matter includes an index.

    Great book for fun & simple projects to do at home with your kids!

    I ran across this book at the library and loved it! I immediately went on-line to purchase it. My daughter is only 5 years old, not quite in kindergarten and we had so much fun doing the science 'fair' projects. We had most of the materials on hand, it was great. It doesn't have to be use as a procrastinator's tool, just a book with great ideas for quick science 'experiments' and a good introduction to scientific terms and methodology.

    unaccurate information form this book

    this book is unacurate because my child has tried one project form there. She did not get correct measuremnts for the equipment needed and the roject did not work. Also the book did not specifie what to do in case it doesnt work. My child was devasted and had already tried the experiment numerous times.
