Overview

He’s the Black Mage and she’s the traitor to the Crown.

Ryiah’s world was shattered the night she discovered King Blayne’s nefarious plans. Now, she has to betray the one she loves most in order to save the realm from war. Torn between love and duty, Ry finds herself on a perilous mission to help the rebels and convince the kingdom of Pythus not to honor its pact with the corrupt king of Jerar—all the while deceiving the most powerful mage in the realm, the very man sworn to protect the Crown and hunt the rebels at all costs: her husband.

She’s one step ahead, but sooner or later the curtain will fall.

Sooner or later, she’ll have to fight.

Witness the epic conclusion of The Black Mage series, and see just how far one girl will go to save her kingdom and the boy she loves—even when that boy has become the enemy.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
Praise for Rachel E. Carter's bestselling The Black Mage series:

"It takes a lot for me to truly fall in love with a book. I think I maybe do this once or twice a year. This is one of those times. I found a new fantasy story that sucked me in (completely). Imagine my surprise that it was YA too. Y'all know me. Normally, I go for the NA and above reads. But this series...it just has that something "extra". That extra punch that drags you in and won't let go. I hope you give it a try. It's THAT good." - Scarlett Dawn, NYT & USA Today bestselling author of Forever Evermore

"A magical academy where potential mages train and study all things magic, a love-hate relationship with an arrogant prince, and a determined and unyielding female heroine? Sign me up." - Raisa Santos - TheFandom.Net

"Falling somewhere between the magic of Hogwarts and the excitement of Hunger Games, this story resides in the niche rather nicely!" - Margaret Faria - InD'Tale Magazine

"This has undoubtedly become one of my favorite YA fantasy series. Hands down, no competition." -Melissa, EverSoMela, top Goodreads reviewer

"Rachel E. Carter has a definite fan in me forever, keep doing what you're doing Rachel because you write an amazing story!" -Emmeline, The Book Herald, top Amazon reviewer

So, I think the real question is, do I have any emotions left in me to translate into a heartfelt review? Because I think I spent my entire reserve of feelings while reading this book, I now carry the emotional weight of teaspoon. That was one helluva ride. I like Ryiah, I do. She's smart, loyal, moral, and a hard worker. But sometimes, just sometimes, I want to push her out of a tree. Soon followed by Blayne, Alex, Darren, Ella, and the rest of the motley crew. But I think that's what makes it so good, what makes Rachel's writing so good. The characters are so flawed and confused and beautifully human that it makes the writing all the more perfect. Basically, Ryiah has learned the truth behind the wars that her country has been in and must now take on the roll of a traitor in order to save the country. It is as dire as it sounds because...yeah, wow. Darren gets pretty pissed, but he also has really adorable (and HAWT) parts. But mainly pissed. There is so much court intrigue, politics, relationship highs and lows, epic EPIC fighting scenes that made me lift my spoon in pathetic imitation. It was packed full in such a delightful way that I'm still a little (a lot, it's a lot) strung out on everything that happened. Rachel's always been a talented writer, but this book showcased her skills so brilliantly. She's grown just as much as Ryiah and Darren have. Happy Reading!!!(I CAN'T WAIT FOR HER NEXT SERIES AND NEITHER CAN YOU)

Warning to all Asthmatics out there like me! Please have your inhalers at the ready for the last installment of one of the most amazing book series I have ever read! IT WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY!! I finished this book in December and I'm still reeling about it! At the time I told Rachel that I loved it more than Harry Potter (and if you know me you know that is crazy talk because I'm absolutely obsessed with it) and it will probably only last a week till I came to my senses, and I did, but this book series is a very close second! I have become attached to these characters and have fallen in love, had my heart broken, I have laughed, cried and had my heart ripped from my chest and shoved right back again. My soul has ached from it all and still I love it! Rachel E. Carter is an EVIL GENIUS and I love her for it! My advice to you is to give these books a try but be warned: If you cannot handle... Pure raw emotion AMAZING magical fight scenes Death of characters that you grow attachments too (good or bad) Dark enduring true love that stands the test of time itself(Seriously!!) or if you just don't have a heart at all this book series is not for you! But if you do have a heart it will thank you for it!
