During World War II, the national Football League faced a crisis unimaginable today: a shortage of players. By 1943, so many players were in the armed forces that the league was forced to fold one team (the Cleveland Rams) and merge two others: the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles. Thus were the “Steagles” born. The Steagles included military draft rejects, a superstar lured out of retirement, and even a few active-duty servicemen who got leave for the games. Yet, somehow, this motley crew posted a winning record-the first in Eagles' history and the second in Steelers' history. A book about football, about life during the war, Last Team Standing is, above all, about those of the Greatest Generation who, against all odds, contributed to America's war effort in the unlikeliest ways.

The story that i am writing about tells how the Eagles and Steelers Formed for one season only during World War II. Matthew Alageo this book was ment to show people the struggles of sports during World War II. I thought this book was very informative of the Steelers and Eagles past. I wrote this review to tell people about my opinion of this book. This book takes place in the year 1940 to 1943. The author Matthew Alageo put a lot of research on the NFL from when it was just getting its start. He also put a lot of time and effort into researching the Steelers and Eagles past. I judged this book on how much this author told you about the background information. I also judged it on how well he did the transitions into different times and parts of the story. This book was about the Eagles and Steelers trying to keep there franchise alive be forming together to become the Steagles. The conditions where, that the Steelers would have to practice and played their home games at the eagles field. The other condition was that the Steelers would have to wear the Eagles uniforms. After they got settled they had to begin the season. The Steagles had a better season then they expected they where only one game short of the playoffs. After that season they broke up and the Eagles once again formed there own franchise. The Steelers had to form with the Cardinals the next season. My evaluation of this book was that I really liked how the author got so into detail of the history of these two teams. I also liked how he researched the games that they played. He was really into detail on how it went and how the score ended. My conclusion of this book is that ireally liked how he got into detail of all their games. My main points are how he got all the games detailed down to the last minute. I also liked how well he did the transition into differnet parts and times of the story. My final evaluation is that this book was really well written and put together. My final review of this book is that it has great detail and very good storylines that fit perfectly together.
