Overview

IT JUST SO HAPPENS that sometimes life is stranger than fiction.

It just so happens that sometimes life takes dramatic and unexpected turns.

It just so happens that, though God may not give us more than we can handle, life will.

It just so happens that tragedies are endured everyday.

It just so happens that an unexpected turn of events cast a family into a tragic situation that provided no exit. Just when the events showed signs of hope, any relief provided by it was snatched away by another twist of fate. Cancer does that to people.

It just so happens, it did it to us. Wes, our 21 year old son, was inexplicably diagnosed with leukemia while being treated for a case of the sniffles. The next year provided trials we thought unendurable. That's not to say that hope didn't loom on the horizon or that humor couldn't find a way into the mix because they did. It's just that cancer patients live their lives in installments between tests. Once the "all clear" is received, hope fills the void; until, just before the next test, when fear shoves hope out of the way. Later is a story about the struggle between hope and fear and how we treat each during the battle.

It just so happens that life is what it is and that hope is eternal.

Come take this journey with us and see why it proves that nothing "just so happens".

"Later".

Later by W.E. (Bill) Smith is a MUST READ! FIVE STARS!!

I just finished reading Later, by W.E. Smith, and I can not recommend this book highly enough. This is a beautiful story about a family dealing with their precious son's diagnosis of leukemia in a hopeful and intelligent way. You will laugh and cry out loud, but mostly you will be inspired. This book is a lesson in love and death and trusting God with
everything that life throws at you. One of the best books I have ever read!

    Couldn't put it down!

I read this book from beginning to end, barely taking a break.
Bill takes you from the beginning of Wes' diagnosis up until where the story is today. It is inspirational and a must read for everyone as we have all lost a loved one. This story shows one family's journey through this disease and beyond.
I highly recommend as a book that will never leave your library, as a gift to anyone experiencing illness or loss, or if you just want to be reminded of all we have to be grateful for in this life God has given to us.

    Later is truly inspirational

Bill Smith took was was probably the most dificult time in his and Clairs life in a devotional and inspirational course. The most enjoyable facet of the book is the devotion of friends that were always there as needed and when least expected. I found myself cheering for Wes and his incredible strength. Anyone can relate to the wonderful path this book takes. We all would hope and prey to have the same strenth and the love and support of friends like Wes'. Thanks Bill, You made a believer out of me.

    Later

Later...What a moving story of courage. The book kept me so involved, I could hardly put it down. It is very inspiring and one that everyone should read. My sister lost a daughter in 2005 and I related to so much of the story. It is wonderful to know that we will reunite with all of our Loved Ones once again in Heaven. It will just be, "LATER."

    A Must Read for ALL!

I have just finished reading "Later" for the second time. Very easy reading. It's like the author is just talking to you personally. The first time I read it I started in the middle; because I too had buried my 25 year old son and needed to hear how to deal with the aftermath. This time I read it start to finish in 3 days. WOW! So many valuable experiences, words of spiritual encouragement and realistic emotions make this a must read for all! I may have to read it again to fully absorb more of its offerings.

    A Rare Combination

    Later
    W.E. (Bill) Smith

It's rare to find a book that contains so much help, inspiration and insight in the context of a riveting story. This is a real life drama that presents the issues surrounding the sudden onslaught of unwanted change and loss; a hard core tale of love, grace and truth that pulls no punches about a year-long journey through the dark valley of the shadow of death.

Bill weaves the technical aspects of leukemia with the personal struggles of a family facing the loss of their young adult son, Wes. He's completely honest in his presentation about their individual battles between their fickle emotions, hard truth and their Christian faith. He asks and answers the hard questions that sometimes confound people who face the realities of overwhelming circumstances.

This is not a preachy book about faith dogma, but an interesting journal of how all things work together for good to those who love God and remain faithful in times of confusion, exhaustion and loss. In Bill's words, "I found the difference between faith and trust. The step in between is surrender. I had to completely surrender Wes to God. Total loss of control. Total reliance on God and His will, whatever it might be."

This book will be useful to any experiencing the tragedies of life, and to those facing cancer, especially leukemia. It discusses the sometimes gruesome, and highly technical, nature of the disease, but as a balance to that, Bill addresses the many themes relating to loss, including a sensitive ending that's full of light and insight, for both Christians and non-Christians. He makes no bones about how their faith in Christ was challenged but eventually enabled them to pursue hope and feel the power of God's love in their darkest hours.

This is a wonderful and worthy tribute to their amazing son, Wes, their friends and family, and the dedicated medical staff that served them so well. But more than anything, it's a compelling testimony about God's amazing grace.

    Later - Inspiring story

I read this book in 4 days - I have never read a book so fast but I couldn't put it down. Later is about a family dealing the their son's diagnosis of leukemia. You will cry, you will laugh, but mostly be inspired. This is a book every parent should read!

    Later

This book was so moving, I could not put it down. Read it in one weekend. I do not know the family, but have some good friends who are good friends of theirs. It was very inspirational and I do hope that families who have lost a child will be able to read it and draw some strength and courage from it. God's will is not always our will. But we know Wes is with him now. I never met Wes, but I know that I will, Later.

LATER is a must read for every parent who loves beyond measure

I sat down to read LATER and did not stop that night until the book was over and I am a better person for having spent the time to do that.
It is very inspiring to read the heart of a father who loves his son, Wes, beyond reason but is unable to control the outcome of his child's leukemia.
Although Wes's diagnosis is fatal, hope shines through and it is the later of eternity that makes life worth living despite loss.
The book is an easy read and this first time author writes in a way that draws the reader in to the story like a seasoned author.

    A Must Read

This author empties his soul in writing this book. Detailing the deepest kind of love a father & mother has for the child that God has given them.
None of us are immune to the times when life seems so unfair. This book is not only the personal experience of the author, but written with others in mind that may be or will be experiencing the same heart wrenching experience. A book for strengthening the inward spirit when things don't go as planned.
