Latin Grammy Nominees 2003: Latin Pop and Tropical

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
The 2003 edition of Latin Grammy nominees discs breaks out the field into two compilations. Latin Pop and Tropical features the big stars, including Grammy winners Juanes and Luis Miguel, as well as fresh talents such as newcomer David Bisbal. Latin rockers come into their own, from rappers Molotov to sleek stadium fillers La Ley, while dance standbys including merengue fireballs Olga Tañón and Gisselle, plus the token Brazilian star Alexandre Pires, round out the set. Latin Grammy Nominees 2003: Regional Mexican turns the spotlight on a panoply of Mexican styles.

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Latin Grammy Nominees 2003: Latin Pop and Tropical gathers tracks from the contenders in the Latin pop and tropical genres that appear on Universal or one of its subsidiary labels. The collection features two songs from Bacilos, the witty "Mi Primer Millón" and the more laid-back "Caraluna"; Juanes' jazzy "Es Por Ti"; Luis Miguel's romantic "Hasta Que Vuelvas"; and Gisselle's contemporary-sounding "Márchate." The album also spans Molotov's snarky, culture-conscious "Frijolero" and the decidedly smoother sounds of Alexandre Pires' "Todavía" and Olga Tañón's "Asi Es La Vida." While the collection is too scattered to appeal to most serious fans of Latin music, those who follow it casually might find it a good refresher on some of 2003's biggest songs and artists.
