In the jungle, the mighty jungle…the animals laugh tonight? Yes, they do, and young jokesters will laugh along the moment they read these wild jungle jests and riddles. What do you get when you cross a hippo with a mouse? You get a hippopota-mouse. What’s gray, has wings, and likes elephant teeth? The tusk fairy. Why do chimpanzees hide when they play cards? The jungle has too many cheetahs. What a wild collection!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Humor has its place and sometimes it is visual, physical, or, as with this series of "Laugh-a-Long Readers," mostly a play on words. In this title, the setting is more exotic—the jungle and all of the jokes are related to wild animals. Too illustrate, "Why do chimpanzees hide when they play cards?" Answer—"The jungle has too many cheetahs!" The scene of the chimps at the top of a palm tree playing poker is amusing, as is the scene on the answer page. Since many of the jokes require good language skills (homonyms, synonyms and the like), the books in this series offer an opportunity to strengthen them. Teachers could make use of the books by posting a joke of the day on the chalkboard. However, in some cases, as noted, the illustrations are the most amusing part of the joke. For those who are observant, the jokes are printed in a regular font while the answers appear in italic font. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
