Overview

The most popular, most-read comic strip in North America is now the most fun way to learn Spanish!

Learning a language should be fun! So sit back, laugh, and learn Spanish by following the antics of the Patterson family in Lynn Johnston's hugely popular comic strip "For Better or For Worse." Now featured weekly in several Latin American Spanish-language newspapers, these cartoons will have you laughing your way through your lessons as you expand your vocabulary, comprehension, and conversational skills.

To help you focus on the learning level with which you are most comfortable, Laugh 'n' Learn Spanish is divided into three sections: beginning, moderate, and challenging Through the comic strips and their universal themes of family values in a modern world, you'll learn how to talk in Spanish about everyday things: making demands and requests, expressing hope and plans for the future, discussing household chores, going shopping, asking for types of food, exploring relationships, and so on. The engaging storylines offer a strong incentive to keep reading and learning.

Using laughter to break through the language barrier, Laugh 'n' Learn Spanish features:

  • Vocabulary notes that translate difficult or new Spanish vocabulary
  • Language notes that provide guidance on correct usage
  • Entertaining, picture-based review questions that test your grasp of vocabulary and commonly used structures
  • Plus the original English text for the cartoon strips, should you need to check your understanding

    Fun and effective!

Now here's an interesting little gem. I'd been putting my Spanish language purchases on hold since buying Learning Spanish Like Crazy, as it has enough material to keep me busy for months, but when I saw Spanish being taught with cartoons? Well, let¿s just say the little kid inside of me came out.

If you read a daily paper, you're probably familiar with the For Better or For Worse comic strip. It's not my favorite, but I enjoy it enough to learn Spanish from it. Laugh n' Learn Spanish uses this strip to teach its lessons, dividing them into easy, medium and hard. Obviously, you start with the easy stuff and progress through.

Because For Better or For Worse is a comic strip about every day life, it's perfect for teaching you language that you'll be using on a daily basis. I learned a lot from this book. It's something you can pack with you for a commute or when you know you'll be waiting in line somewhere. I just took mine in bite sized doses to stay fresh.

Good book, good value. I paid about 10 bucks for mine. No complaints.

    Good for older kids

I am looking for cartoons to teach Spanish to 2nd-4th graders in a fun and engaging way. This book would be good for older kids. I am not saying it's not good. It's just not what I was looking for. Nevertheless, I may use it as a supplement .... with older kids.

    Fun Spanish practice

This book is perfect for an advanced beginner, early intermediate Spanish learner. I know enough Spanish now to want to broaden my reading beyond grammar drill. This book is funny and yet gives a vocabulary review that makes each comicstrip amusing and not a chore.
