Overview

"Laughing through Life," essays and anecdotes described by critics as "Erma-Bombeck-meets-David-Sedaris" will amuse and entertain as you follow the adventures of a young mother, teacher, businesswoman and press corps member as she follows the 2004 and 2008 presidential campaign, often with her youngest child (19 years younger than her older brother; PTA from 1973-2010) in tow. You'll enjoy this more if you thought electing "W" was a very bad idea and are progressive. Progressives have all the fun, it seems, both on the campaign trail and in life. Appointing herself "political humor" for www.BlogforIowa.com, Connie set off on the adventure of a lifetime and lived to tell about it. There are also those "A Ha!" moments that any parent can relate to, as the 9th or 10th cell phone falls into the Porta-potty. Enjoy! Smile! Laugh through life with the author and her 2-year-old twin granddaughters, Ave & Elise. (Just when she thought it was safe to go back in the water.....)

Editorial Reviews

Sean Leary
"Connie Wilson's unique style of humor will have you smiling in recognition at the all-too-human nature of her adventures when you're not laughing outright. If you thought electing "W" was potentially disastrous, you'll enjoy this more than if you are mourning the loss of Glenn Beck. Connie's wit and humor are unique, genuine, Bombeckian, Sedaris-like...and you should hear her read them aloud, if you think they're funny in print. Invite her and she'll come. (But she won't bring her oboe.)

Meet the Author

Connie (Corcoran) Wilson has been writing for pay since she was 10 years old. A University of Iowa graduate, she once drove everyone in her apartment building nuts by practicing the oboe in the storage cubicle in the basement. She has also been known to take an accordion on a tour of prison towns in America's Southwest, travel Route 66 searching for ghosts that can cook, and fall down the hill outside Invesco Stadium (Denver, Colorado) while following the Fox News Team. It is NOT true that she was arrested outside the "Rage Against the Machine" concert in Denver in 2008; that was the guy going home from the library. The author hopes you will smile at least once and heartily guffaw in places, but remember: she warned you about the progressive part.

This is a collection of humorous essays written by Ms Wilson as part of her newspaper column. I absolutely loved this book and chuckled all the way through it - from start to finish. There have been comparisons made between Ms. Wilson and Erma Bombeck. I have read several of Ms. Bombeck's books years ago and I have to totally agree with these comparisons. It was also an incredibly fast read for me as well. I give this book an A+! and look forward to Ms. Wilson's next book with bated breath
