Laughter of the Damned is not only about ...
Laughter of the Damned is not only about heaven and hell; it is a buffet of fiendishly delicious surprises. It simultaneously stimulates the intellect, the imagination, the libido and the inherent appretite for original thought. It is seductively well-written and you can almost see the ghosts of Mark Twain and Evelyn Waugh nodding with approval. Although provocative, the subject matter is merely the canvas for the writer's irreverent and imaginative visions, and his wit sneaks in at surprising moments.

I was given this book as a gift several months ago and have kept it on my night table ever since. I've also purchased copies to give away. It's the kind of book you can pick up and open up at any random point and read something fresh and enjoyable, often LOL funny. The chapters are short & accessible and span a fun variety of topics -- post-sex afterglow, imaginary conversations with Satan, moms, reincarnation, the adrenal glands. . . . . I still haven't read them all, but my favorite so far is "Cruisin'" (about commercial cruise lines, and having been on just one cruise myself, in my opinion he has just the right take on it). Yet none are frivolous and all have depth. Mr. Corbett is a natural born writer with tremendous intelligence and an easy, unpretentious writing style that draws you in no matter what the topic. I think if this book were marketed as the perfect gift for people who are impossible to buy gifts for, it would be a best seller. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. "Laughter of the Damned" is an excellent read - original, unique and DIFFERENT. Corbett's writing style draws you in and takes you on a wild ride. It is impossible to resist the topics of Heaven and Hell - where we'll end up and what we'll find. This book tackles the really big picture - what happens after our time on this planet - with true originality, taking us on adventures in the afterlife. If what we find is half as interesting as it is in Corbett's mind, I can't wait to get there! When does someone offer you a slice of heaven and at the same time land you in the middle of the devil's workshop? It is like nothing I have ever read and stands alone in this quirky thought provoking and entertaining place - so funny and clever! It was my holiday gift giving list and friends have now formed quite a fan club! So exciting following a newly discovered author. Hungry for more !!Was this review helpful?
