This book is the first in the Jack Shepherd series, of which there are currently three titles. Our hero is an American ex-pat living in Bangkok with his artist girlfriend, teaching at a small university, and trying to forge his previous life as a lawyer in the US.

When a dead friend reappears with a beautiful bodyguard everything is about to change. Everyone seems to think he is involved in the disappearance of millions of dollars. Everyone except Jack, who finds that as the days pass he is drawn ever more deeply into a mess that will change his life forever. If he survives.

The book involves some detail about international banking and company structure, but fear not, you will not find yourself drifting off to sleep. The banking is punctuated by action and description that you will find irresistible.

I have found another author to put on my short list of people whose books I will read as soon as I can get my hands on them.

    (I reviewed a copy which I purchased.)

I found this author while researching for a family trip to Asia.

I found this author while researching for a family trip to Asia. I love thrillers, and especially books set in exotic locations that I have been to or would like to visit. This book hit the mark. It was a fast-paced read with a well-constructed plot. The main characters were developed nicely, but there were a lot of "extras" that I found difficult to keep track of. That said, I still very much enjoyed the book and already am halfway through Mr. Needham's second book in the Jack Shepard series, and I plan to continue through all his books as quickly as possible.

I came accross Jake's books back in 2006 in Singapore at Changi airport. I have never heard of him before and literally just grabbed LAUNDRY MAN on the way to my gate to board a flight (just to make sure, of course I paid for it and didn't just grab it). The night when I went to bed I thought "Well, read a few lines until you get sleepy". BAD mistake! The next morning at 7am I finished reading the entire book! So here's a genuine warning to all of you potential new readers:
Only start to read if you can make absolutely sure you can finish the book at once because you won't put it down until you have arrived on the last page! So don't complain I didn't warn you!
    And here's my general recommendation:
    (1) Picture the best thriller you have ever read in your life so far.
    (2) Now forget about it again because your new most favourite thrillers will be by Mr Jake Needham!

    I Also Recommend:

    Highly Recommended

If you like financial mystery-thrillers, you will love Laundry Man. Jack Shepherd is a wise-cracking hoot. The book is filled with suspense and thrills from the first page right through to the end. And it reads like an action movie with wonderful descriptive scenes. Another home run for Jake Needham in a game that we all can't help but enjoy.
