I truly enjoyed this story. A love story that was both touching and sad. I was drawn especially to Miss Ainslie, and the kindness she was shown by both Ruth and Carl. There were several ocassions where there could have been more detail such as how she came in possession of the many beautiful gifts other than "some one who loved her", but overall it was a good read. I would recommend this book and I plan to look into the authors other writings. I found this as an ebook.

I had heard the phrase "lavender and old lace" before and knew the comedy "Arsenic and Old Lace" was a play-on-words. But apparently this was a best seller in its day. Kind of sweet, but not vital. Heroine a bit headstrong and hero puts up with a lot.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet, old fashioned romance. Unfortunately the free version contained several quirky typos at the beginning of each chapter, but it's a charming story and I highly recommend it.
