Overview

Whether you tune in each week to see veteran Detective Lennie Briscoe analyze clues with wild-card partner Ed Green in the fist half of the show, or to see Assistant District Attorney Jack McCoy invoke justice in the courtroom in the second half, you cannot help but get involved with the most human characters on television. With these powerful characters and socially relevant stories ripped from today's headlines, it is difficult to tell whether you are watching the evening news or one of the most intense dramas ever seen on television.

Law & Order: The Unofficial Companion was written with the cooperation of the show's creator and executive producer, Dick Wolf, and features interviews with the stars, producers, and writers. It is the first-ever guide to this popular, Emmy award-winning police drama.

You'll get the inside scoop on:

-the past and current stars of the show-including Paul Sorvino, Jerry Orbach, Jesse L. Martin, Christopher Noth, S. Epatha Merkerson, Sam Waterston, Carey Lowell, Angie Harmon, and Michael Moriarty-and find out who was fired, who left willingly, and who remains

-the show's continued problems with censorship issues and advertiser fallout

-the behind-the-scenes anecdotes about cast regulars, including the fights-both verbal and physical-that have peppered the production

-how Wolf was forced to increase the estrogen and decrease the testosterone on the show

-the detailed history behind the creation and development of the show, and season-by-season critiques of each episode through the entire 1999 season

Law and Order is the Best

I think this book is the best book ever written for Law and Order fans. It tells you everything about the show. They should write a sequel to the book because it only goes to the year 1999 and now it's 2003. Maybe they could write another book with just pictures. Also they should write a book about Special Victims Unit and Criminal Intent. I am the BIGGEST Law and Order fan ever! My room is decorated with pictures. So, you should buy it. I LOVE LAW AND ORDER SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMUCH! Don't forget to watch Wednesdays at 10, Sundays at 9 and 10, Fridays at 10 and Saturdays at 8,9, and 10 on NBC. Also, catch reruns of the episodes on TNT. The best game to play is matching episodes in the book. Each person has their own book and during the episode on TV, tries to match it in his/her book. The first person who does wins.

Finally, a keepsake for the fans !!!

'Law & Order' is the best and most realistic fictional crime drama in televison history. This actually is NOT an opinion. I personally am a Criminal Justice major w/ a degree in Criminal Profiling. Also, many of my professors, past and present, assign it as mandatory viewing. This book is a real treat for the fans of the show. Today, you see books on almost every TV show that is @ least slightly popular. Most of these shows have 2 to 3 books dedicated to them. I find it disturbing that this is the ONLY book on the show of topic. More troubling is the fact that the book didn't appear until the show was in it's 8th season. However, the wait is worth it. This is the best TV-tie in book that I have ever come across. Fun and informative, it guides you through the show's history as smooth as a silk sheet. The episode guide is right on que, and the photos are appealing. More appealing is the fact that the companion's authors knew when enough photos were enough. The bulk of the book is text, which I believe a TRUE fan would want-info rather than color glossies. A 'bible' of the series, it is-a must have for anyone that calls him/herself a 'fan'. For those that enjoy technical info, the book comes through. For those that like 'juicy rumors', the book will also engross. I keep it right next to the TV guide on my entertainment center--tell me a 'Law & Order' fanatic that wouldn't. I can only hope that the teriffic authors will continue to update editions. In any case, hats off to the both of them for giving us a real piece of 'Law & Order' merchandise !!!

    Law & Order's fans 'Bible'

This book is fantastic for seasoned watchers, as well as newcomers. I have read every chapter with the exception of 'Episodes'. The reason behind this is that I like to watch the old shows on A&E and try to locate the episode in the book and then read about it as I watch it. Not only is it very informative, but fun as well!

Excellent reference for fans and newbies alike

This book is a great introduction to people who want to know more about this series, such as if (like me) you started watching it on A&E in reruns. It tells you everything you need to know to get up to date. Now, it has become one of my favorite references. Whenever I'm not sure if I've seen an episode, don't know an episode or need some more information, I just grab this book, check the index and find the information I need. A must read for anyone interested in this show!
