The market has changed since McLachlan†s late-†90s heyday; pop starlets like Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift are now among the industry†s most highly prized female songwriters, making McLachlan seem a bit staid and outdated by comparison. With the 2010 revival of Lilith Fair, though, she has somewhat reconstructed the world as it existed a decade ago, and Laws of Illusion furthers the fantasy by taking its cues from Clinton-era folk-pop. It†s an album that aims to soothe rather than startle, replete with wistful, lovelorn lyrics and McLachlan†s signature arrangements -- a mix of new age atmospherics and singer/songwriter ambience -- courtesy of longtime producer Pierre Marchand. As he†s done in the past, Marchand splits his time between highlighting McLachlan†s voice with intimate piano chords and piling the orchestrations high, although the two devote more time to ballads this time around.     McLachlan brings on the wonder once again

    McLachlan is truly an artist, a true artist paints what she feels, and there is no denying the paintings in this album are works of art and that her voice and familiar style reside within each and every one of these songs. The album starts off with a realization of love gone wrong in "Awakenings." "Illusions of Bliss" is one of my favorites and just flows with pure sounds, a classic McLachlan melody. "Forgiveness" sounds somewhat along the lines of "Adia" with lyrics "Through the year we'd had it all / The midnight whispers, the midday calls / This house of cards it had to fall / You ask for forgivness, you're asking too much. " The bouncy and upbeat "Loving You is Easy" is the album's first single and is another one of my favorites. The harmonies blend beautifully in the hopeful, final song "Bring on the Wonder." Many of the songs on this album reflect McLachlan's pain and frustration at her crumbling marriage. Not exactly a happy album but worth a listen. (Review copy provided by One2One Network)

    Great to hear her voice again!

    I received Sarah McLachlan's latest album to review through the One2One Network. As a huge fan of hers, I was thrilled to get a chance to hear the music before its official release. I was not in the least bit disappointed with the music. I have listened to the album several times through, and I find myself singing or humming along to more and more songs. "Loving You is Easy" and "Forgiveness" are two of my personal favorites. Although this album is not quite as upbeat and catchy as some of Sarah's previous albums, it is still a great collection of songs.

    Sarah's Back

    Being a huge fan of her Angel song I was hoping for another huge hit and while this CD is pleasant, I didn't get one. Regardless, if you are a Sarah fan already, you will not be disappointed in this CD!

    Success!

    It's about time Sarah comes out with a new album, and a successful one at that. After being away for so long, most artists lose a lot of customers as their listeners grow and mature, and their tastes change. But then several release album after album, rushing them and not really creating quality work. Neither is the case with Laws of Illusion and Sarah. Each track is unique and wholly Sarah with her haunting voice, melodies, and arrangements. She's a true artist and gives each track her full attention, paying great attention to detail and quality. The only negative that I can think of with this album is that there aren't more tracks! I've missed Sarah and would like to have had her release a double cd set since it's been so long but I'm happy and content with what she's created here.

    Laws of Illusion a refreshing comeback for Sarah McLachlan

    I've been a huge Sarah McLachlan for years, so I was really excited to hear her new album and to see if she stayed true to her original sound or if she seemed to stray. Either way, I was just looking forward to hearing something fresh from her.

    If one thing is certain, it's that Sarah's soothing and like-no-other voice is just as powerful as it's ever been. The lyrics are thought-provoking, and the music is very soothing and relaxing.

    One major difference between this and some of Sarah's other albums is that this one does have a few tracks that are definitely more upbeat. I'm a fan of all of her albums, but it's no secret that some of her past songs have seemed a bit depressing or sad - still amazing songs, just not all uplifting.

    I would say Laws of Illusion is a nice blend of some more upbeat selections along with the slower, more relaxing songs that also have some heavier lyrics.

    While this CD would be perfect as background music for a romantic dinner or be great while relaxing in a bubble bath, I'd also like to say that, as the mother of a two-year-old, this is a great CD for calming your nerves while driving your car with a toddler in the middle of a whine-fest.

    All in all, 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked this CD, but at the same time, it didn't totally knock my socks off, either. But, I'm certainly not disappointed.

    Beautiful

    I thought the album stayed true to Sarah's well loved sound and was truly beautiful. I really enjoyed listening. I put it on during work one afternoon and it made work flow much more smoothly with the mellow sound of Sarah McLachlan. It was a treat to finally hear something new from her. My coworker that shares my space close enough to listen loved the album as well!

    Long awaited CD

    I have always loved Sarah McLachlan . I listened to Mirrorball nonstop through my 20's.

    Her music is still beautiful. However, I was disappointed that the entire album was really about break ups. I know she has had recent personal upheaval, but there was nothing really about pulling through and moving on to a new phase of her life...

    I would still recommended the album, but be sure to understand it is not a light hearted CD!

    Sarah McLachlan's New Album Doesn't Disappoint!

    I've always been a fan of Sarah McLachlan's music. Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has been one of my favorite albums for a long time. When I heard about her upcoming new album, I was very excited to hear it. I was given a copy of the album by the One 2One Network to review.

    Laws of Illusion didn't disappoint me at all. It's poetic and rhythmic and full of the beautiful melodies we expect from Sarah McLachlan. This is not a one-sided album. The album is full of upbeat pop songs and lovely ballads. My favorite tracks include Forgiveness, Out of Tune and Love Come, but it really is a wonderful album straight through. "Loving You is Easy" is a great, catchy pop song and a perfect choice for the album's first single. I also love that the album comes with a lyric book. I've always been drawn to Sarah McLachlan's lyrics and I really enjoyed following along as I listened.

    Whether you have been a fan for years, or if you are new to Sarah McLachlan, you won't be able to deny her gorgeous voice and wonderful songwriting. Give this album a listen, I bet you'll love it like I did!

    poignant and lovely

    This long awaited album from Sarah McLachlan is haunting and beautiful. As usual, she delivers poignant lyrics that are very easy to relate to. There is a slight departure from her norm as she explores some new rhythms, keeping things fresh and modern. Yet she manages to deliver us with her voice, ah that voice, that makes us shiver.

    Great for long time fans!

    I am one of the biggest Sarah McLachlan fans ever so when One2One Network gave me the chance to review her latest CD, Laws of Illusion I jumped on it. I try not to be bandwagon fans of musical artists but I have to say that one of my all time favorites by Sarah McLachlan is "Ice Cream"! I just love that song!

    I was excited to see that this CD held true to the wonderful Sarah McLachlan style that we all know and love. The songs have nice haunting melodies with lyrics that reach out to everyone! It's the perfect relaxation, I just want to be alone, chill out CD.

    Laws of Illusion is actually being released today, June 15 and it is the first studio album with all new material of McLachlan's in over seven years. If you've never heard of Sarah McLachlan, you really should check her out. In a career spanning more than two decades, Sarah has over 20 million career sales to date and, every one of Sarah McLachlan's studio and live albums has been certified gold, platinum, or multi-platinum by the RIAA! And I must say that I have purchased or downloaded almost every one of those songs to my I-pod!

    I first saw Sarah when a friend took me to her concert for a birthday present. We had nosebleed tickets but it was still one of the best concerts I have ever been too! If you would like to see Sarah perform live I suggest you hit Lilith Fair. From 1997 through 1999, Lilith Fair was one of the highest grossing touring festivals in the world, with over 2 million fans in attendance and raising over $10 million dollars for national and local women's charities.

    a return to Sarah's classic, soothing style

    As a long time fan of Sarah, I was apprehensive about her latest release. In an era where most artists seem to feel that they need to constantly change their style and sound to remain "relevant", Sarah Mclachlan is clearly comfortable in her own skin and making the music that her fans know and love. "Laws of Illusion" is a return to her at her best, with beautiful lyrics and music that are perfect for laying back and relaxing. The track "Out of Tune", in particular, is beautiful with the slight touch of the ethereal that I've come to love from her. The only oddity is the album photography. The cover image, in particular, is a less than attractive photo of her - in fact, she looks more like Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives than the true beauty she is. A few of the inner photos reflect her beauty but not as many as one would expect. Imagery aside, though, this is destined to be a Sarah Mclachlan fans new favorite album in a very short amount of time.

    Simply Amazing!

    Wow, Sarah Maclachlan outdid herself on this one, Laws of Illusion is a masterpiece. I love the entire cd from start to finish, but track 5, Forgiveness, is definitely my favorite, it has a hauntingly beautiful quality to it, like much of Maclachlan's music. I also really loved Illusions of Bliss, Don't Give Up On Us, and Love come. This is a cd every Sarah Maclachlan fan will love. This in my opinion is one of the best Cd's she has ever put out. Buy it you will not regret it.

    Emotional Comeback for Sarah McLachlan

    Laws of Illusion is everything you would expect from a Sarah McLachlan album. Her soothing, melodic vocals stand out over the instruments in the background as she pours her soul into each song. In this album she brings a sense of maturity as she explores love, heartbreak, renewal, and the weight of the world around us. Some songs, like "Out of Tune" hold a heaviness that you can feel as you listen to the lyrics:

    It isn't my heart that's grown cold
    The same mistakes are getting old
    I'm lost for words, I don't know what to do

    But when I'm lying here with you
    And the whole world's out of tune
    You're the one and only voice that makes things right
    So stay with me tonight

    It is apparent that McLachlan has done a lot of soul searching in the years since her last album release. Overall, the album was not as upbeat as I would have expected it to be, but that certainly hasn't kept it from being on a nearly constant rotation since the day I received it.

    Sarah McLachlan at her Ethereal Best

    It's been a long wait for Sarah McLachlan's newest album, but the reward of "Laws of Illusion" is sweet. Many of the songs deal with heartbreak and loss, but at the same time, demonstrate lessons learned in getting through those difficult times. My favorites were the upbeat "Illusions of Bliss", "Loving You Is Easy," and "U Want Me 2", as well as the more introspective "Awakenings" and "Love Come."

    It is good to finally hear from Sarah McLachalan after 7 years. Sarah shows us with Laws of Illusion that she still has a beautiful voice with soulful style. Her range is always interesting and captivating. This CD provides a good listen for the contemporary/easy listening adult group. As always the music is very pretty to listen to and the cd is loaded with heart felt songs. The songs are relaxing and soothing. My only negative opinion of this cd is that maybe there seems to be a bit too much heartbreak in it. My favorite song is Forgiveness. The tune is catchy and I love the music to it

    Worth the Wait!

    Recently, I received a complimentary copy of Sarah McLachlan's Laws of Illusion for review. It has been seven long years since McLachlan released a new CD, but I think the wait was worth it. I particularly enjoyed "Illusions of Bliss" and "Loving You Is Easy." The theme of the CD seems to be dealing with heartbreak and loss, but coming out the other side stronger/wiser.

    Sarah sounds great...

    Sarah sounds great in her first album in years. Her voice and style are as beautiful as always. I received this album from One2One Network. I've listened through the album from start to finish several times and while there are a lot of nice songs, there isn't a single song that has really jumped out and grabbed my attention. With that being said the album has been great soothing background music for working to.

    Laws of Illusion-Dignity and Grace

    I'm a Sarah McLachlan fan and I was excited to be picked by the One2One network to review her latest album. Laws of Illusion is her first album in seven years. There's been turmoil in Sarah's life, her marriage has imploded and she's a single mom to her two daughters. Sarah has taken this experience and created an album that covers the various stages of love.
    If you're hoping for a new relationship, you'll want to listen to "Rivers of Love". If you're in love and want to celebrate, you'll enjoy "Loving You Is Easy" and "Out of Tune". If you're willing to give a relationship a second chance, you'll relate to "Illusions of Bliss" and "U Want Me 2". Trying to survive the end of a relationship? Listen to "Forgiveness" and "Awakenings" and realize that you're worthy of someone better.
    I enjoyed most of the songs. I didn't enjoy "Bring On The Wonder", the only song not written by Sarah McLachlin or Pierre Marchand, as much. My personal favorites are: "Loving You is Easy", "Heartbreak", "Changes", and "Out of Tune". "Loving You Is Easy" is a fun, upbeat song, "Heartbreak" celebrates resilience, "Changes" and "Out of Tune" are beautiful ballads.
    Laws of Illusions has upbeat songs, ballads, and quieter, meditative songs. There are songs that suit pensive moods and other songs that will make you get up and dance. I think this album is an excellent blend of poetry and music, and I highly recommend this album!

    Still Love Sarah

    I've been a Sarah McLachlan fan since the first time I heard "Adia" and have been loving her ever since. She has such an incredible voice. It's powerful and tender at the same time. I was so excited to get her new cd, and overall I liked it. She sings as beautifully as ever, but I felt like the music itself wasn't as melodic or catchy. I enjoyed listening to it, but I didn't get as "into it" as I have with her other albums. While I wouldn't call this a home run, I would still recommend it.
