About the Author

DeeDee (Bailey) Horton had a passion for writing since youth. She grew up a gifted athlete who alternated between collegiate volleyball and basketball-as does her protagonist in Layer Upon Layer. After teaching middle school, where she especially enjoyed teaching writing, DeeDee returned to her love of sports as a college basketball coach for more than a decade. After retirement, she wrote Layer Upon Layer, pulling from her athletic experience to shed light on the importance of mentors and positive female narratives that bring constructive change to women. While beginning final edits, DeeDee was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. She entrusted her husband, David, with the completion of Layer Upon Layer while prioritizing the writing of two "Love Books" to carry him through the grief ahead.
