About the Author

EMER DE VATTEL (1714-1767) was a Swiss jurist and highly regarded in the field of international law. His intense study of Wolff, Leibniz, and Grotius led to the development of his philosophies of just war theory, as well as the combining of naturalist and positivist legal reasoning. Law of Nations (1758) was his crowning achievement, a book which influenced and guided America's Founding Fathers.
