Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner are coauthors of theaward-winning and best-selling book, The LeadershipChallenge, with over 1.4 million copies sold in more thanseventeen different languages. Not only is he a highly regarded leadership scholarand an experienced executive, the Wall Street Journal hascited him as one of the twelve most requested nonuniversityexecutive educators in the United States.
Jim is currently an Executive Fellow at the Center for Innovationand Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University. He previouslyserved as president, CEO, and chairman of the Tom Peters Company(1988–1999) and prior to that led the Executive DevelopmentCenter at Santa Clara University (1981–1987). Jim founded theJoint Center for Human Services Development at San Jose StateUniversity (1972–1980) and was on the staff of the School ofSocial Work, University of Texas. His career in training anddevelopment began in 1969 when he conducted seminars for CommunityAction Agency staff and volunteers in the “war onpoverty” effort. Following graduation from Michigan StateUniversity (B.A. with honors in political science), he served as aPeace Corps volunteer (1967–1969). Jim also received acertificate from San Jose State University’s School ofBusiness for completion of the internship in organizationdevelopment.

Barry Posner is dean of the Leavey School of Business andprofessor of leadership at Santa Clara University (in SiliconValley, California), where he has received numerous Kouzes.baboutteaching and innovation awards. An internationally renowned scholarand educator, Barry is author or coauthor of more than a hundredresearch and practitioner-focused articles. He currently serves onthe editorial review boards for Leadership and OrganizationalDevelopment, Leadership Review, and the InternationalJournal of Servant-Leadership. Barry is a warm and engagingconference speaker and dynamic workshop facilitator.
Barry received his baccalaureate degree with honors from theUniversity of California, Santa Barbara, in political science, hismaster’s degree from The Ohio State University in publicadministration, and his doctoral degree from the University ofMassachusetts, Amherst, in organizational behavior andadministrative theory. Having consulted with a wide variety ofpublic and private sector organizations around the globe, Barrycurrently sits on the boards of directors of Advanced Energy(NASDAQ: AEIS), the San Jose Repertory Theatre, and EMQ Family& Children Services. He has served previously on the board ofthe American Institute of Architects (AIA), Junior Achievement ofSilicon Valley and Monterey Bay, Public Allies, Big Brothers/BigSisters of Santa Clara County, the Center for Excellence inNonprofits, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and several start-upcompanies.     This easy-to-read, well-organized inspirational book shows you in 21 short chapters what it takes to become a leader. The essays are concise and transparent, and the numerous examples will inspire anyone who needs a boost in leadership energy. Some material is repeated, basic or familiar, but the book offers a great deal of wisdom about motivational leadership and making your mark. If you'd like a short but solid manual on leadership issues to read on the airplane or over the weekend, we recommend tossing this into your carry-on or briefcase.
