Finding a suitable book that can help a reader understand the principles of both personal and professional leadership is not easy. 'Leadership from the Inside Out' is one of those books that can be used for this purpose. Kevin Cashman invites the reader on a fascinating journey that includes seven important pathways: Personal mastery, purpose mastery, change mastery, interpersonal mastery, being mastery, balance mastery, and action mastery. The idea behind this approach is that a person¿s ability to grow as a leader is based on the ability to grow as a person. This book is very useful for discovering existing leadership strengths and for providing ideas to build on them. It is a well organized book that is easy to read and understand. I particularly liked that Cashman provides ample space for the reader to write down insights, reflections, and comments, as well as to answer his specific questions and to develop action plans. Furthermore, I liked reading the many citations from famous authors he successfully incorporated into his chapters, ranging from Socrates, Confucius, and Goethe to Carlyle, Senge, and Bolman and Deal. I purchased this book for a graduate-level course in leadership and found it to be both an excellent text book and a valuable resource on issues related to authentic leadership and personal development. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in learning about leadership. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. This book is a journey - if you seriously want to reflect on your own leadership potential and practices. This is not written to be read straight through. My recommendation is to follow the exercises discussed and get the maximum amount of introspection you can from yourself. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
