Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Laura Backman
With one hundred number activity ideas suggested and tested by experienced teachers, this resource provides a reference for parents and novice teachers who want to engage very young learners with numbers. As part of the "Learn Every Day" series, this book is separated by curriculum areas and organized according to age appropriateness. Each activity features learning objectives, a list of related vocabulary, children's books, a materials list, directions for preparation, instructions for each activity, and an assessment component. Many of the directions take time and materials that may not be practical or feasible in a large classroom setting. Some of the basic materials require research on the part of the facilitator. Activities allow for fine and gross motor work but are not accessible, or differentiated for all learners. The most valuable components include songs and finger plays, teacher to teacher tips, suggested children's book lists, and vocabulary for each lesson. Reviewer: Laura Backman
