Teachers of young children won't have to look further than "Learn Everyday About Our Green Earth," a new book that offers lessons for children ages 3 to 5. The book, subtitled, "100 Best Ideas from Teachers," is organized both by age and activity, the latter ranging from getting the youngest pupils to come up with ideas for reusing a soda bottle to working with compost in glass jars. Lessons cover projects for use in circle/group gatherings, songs, vocabulary development and various motor skills, among other exercises. Each project includes a list of materials, books on related topics, and how to carry out each project. Several are accompanied by "teacher to teacher tip" that suggests ways to adapt the lessons, such as setting a higher standard for art work for more accomplished or older students, or having children bring items from home for use in demonstration projects. This is a cheery book, though not overly so, well thought out and organized, and based on the experiences of other teachers.
