Barnes & Noble - Lisa Zhito
On their two prior albums, San Diego alterna-rock trio Switchfoot made a name for themselves with solid songcraft and a straightforward rock-'n'-roll sentiment. Learning to Breathe continues in that vein, using strong lyrics and melodic hooks to create its uniquely accessible sound. Their rather radical message this time around is that Christianity is a faith for the here and now, to be lived and expressed in this life on earth. Learning to Breathe opens with the challenging "I Dare You to Move," a song that throws down the lyrical gauntlet to live "like today never happened before," then reminds us throughout each song that all the trappings of the Christian faith -- ...

Their rather radical message this time around is that Christianity is a faith for the here and now, to be lived and expressed in this life on earth. Learning to Breathe opens with the challenging "I Dare You to Move," a song that throws down the lyrical gauntlet to live "like today never happened before," then reminds us throughout each song that all the trappings of the Christian faith -- love, forgiveness, redemption and salvation -- are things experienced now. It's not a new concept for Christian music but Switchfoot present their ideas in such a fresh, melodic way, we're happy to hear it again.
All Music Guide - Steve Huey
Learning to Breathe, Switchfoot's third album, continues the band's welcome lack of religious didacticism, instead expressing its spiritual concerns in more universal terms. Don't think that Switchfoot ought to be more dogmatic to avoid compromising their beliefs, though; every song here is firmly rooted in Christian faith and philosophy, as well as musically speaking mainstream post-grunge alternative rock. It's refreshing and more compelling to hear a band still searching for the answers instead of claiming to have them already.

    just a fan/listner

I feel that this cd of learing to breathe is one of switchfoot's most spiritual cd's made.I like how they use faith and god because i feel it can attrack others that aren't christians to come to god. That to me is a very important thing.Switchfoot has always been my favorite christian band and i feel their lyrics always may tell you something.

    A great sounding CD

This CD is one of my all-time favorites. I've owned it for over a year, and still listen to it frequently - The songs have a sound all their own, and deep, poetic lyrics. They just don't get old.

    Switchfoot Does It Again

This album rocks in a big way. ''Love is the Movement'' is probably my favorite track. It has a beat that is, in my opinion, is rave ready with no help neded. ''Poparazzi'' grows on you, and while it does, it gets stuck in your head like crazy. Switchfoot's stuff is just awesome.

    Switchfoot Rocks!

While I've only in the last year started listening to Switchfoot, they've become my absolute favorite band. I know no other band with such powerful lyrics, awesome voices, and great guitarists. Not to mention that they have the best live performances.

    Switchfoot has done it again!

I have always enjoyed Switchfoot's music from the beginning. They have definately done it again with Learning to Breathe!!! It is an incredible album that shows maturity and growth since the last 2 albums. It is a little different musically, from their others, but I am enjoying it very much!!! If you don't have it, I highly reccomend that you get it!

The Boys Pull Through Yet Again

Switchfoot's latest album ''Learning To Breathe'' is absolutely wonderful! I daresay even better than the other two albums (''Legend Of Chin'' and ''New Way To Be Human'')! Even my bass teacher agrees. He says that Switchfoot pushes the limits of greatness! If you like good, and uplifting rock music, this is a good c.d. for you. If you like any type of rock music at all you should try these guys. They're great! Jon Foreman totally shows off his talents in the songwriting, guitar and vocal areas. The lyrics of 'Learning To Breathe' are so deep and innovating but yet so humble and honest. Tim Foreman shows how skilled he is with the bass and Chad Butler is amazing on the drums. This is a trio you shouldn't miss out on!

Switchfoot furthers its reputation for musical depth

In today's music world where some bands produce one or two exceptional songs per CD, Switchfoot continues to impress. Like their previous CDs every song has a depth and musical clarity that is both memorable and moving yet totally fun. Ever since ''Ben Hur'' on ''The Legend of Chin'' they are still my favorite band. Listen to them.

    Breathing 101

After almost 4 years of supporting Jon, Tim, and Chad, I am yet again ''WOW-ED'' by their artistry. The mixing of such a profound message with Switchfoot's signature edgy melodic pop-rock sound, and you have nothing but ''coolness''. Each preceeding CD has been a step in their journey, as humans and as musicians. It is almost impossible not to find yourself humming along, or in my case, suppressing the desire to sing outloud on the bus, or somewhere public =)

    Learning To Breathe

I have enjoyed Switchfoot's CDs for years, starting with the Legend of Chin, moving through New Way to be Human, and now working my way up to Learning to Breathe. If you have never heard this band, you do not know what you are missing. Each new album shows immense growth and depth. The music is so passionate and beautiful; Jon Foreman's vocals are full of such longing. Learning to Breathe has upped Switchfoot into my category of ''favorite bands'', which before hearing this cd only held one band. I would recommend this cd to any person who loves any kind of music and wants something above the commonplace or typical.
