School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2 In a lean sort of Curious-George-meets- the-Cat-in-the-Hat tale, Minnie the monkey salvages a chain reaction disaster. When her little brother Freddy bounces on the bed with an open bottle of soda in his hand, Minnie tells him to plug it with his finger. Freddy does, but he gets his finger stuck, which requires an elaborate plan to unstick the bottle. That works, but sends the bottle through the window, which gets fixed with glue, which requires hosing down the house, which requires punching a hole in the floor, which makes a great place to stick a soda pop bottle vase, which means now Minnie and Freddy can really bump and jump on the bed, but first Freddy has to stop up his soda pop bottle with his toe. . . . ```Oh. No.''' The rhymed text of this slapstick story is simple and bouncy, if not exactly inspired, and beginners will chortle over Minnie's messes and creative mop-ups. The slapdash full-color charcoal and wash cartoons will be a big draw here. Minnie and Freddy are more gangly and angly, but they look like they could have fallen out of the same banana tree as Rey's ``George.'' The wild flailing and flipping Minnie and Freddy do will keep other monkeys turning those pages. Nancy Palmer, The Little School, Bellevue, Wash.
