All Music Guide - Andy Kellman
Natalie Cole's second album for Verve, released four years after Ask a Woman Who Knows, is also based around covers. This time out, she fixes her gaze on more modern material and is joined by producer Dallas Austin. Backed by a band anchored by Austin (who drums throughout), longtime Austin associate Tony Reyes (bass, guitar), and Marvin "Chanz" Parkman (keyboards), Cole breezes through an easygoing set of covers including the likely (Aretha Franklin's "Day Dreaming," Des'ree's "You Gotta Be"), the relatively unlikely (Neil Young's "Old Man," Kate Bush's "The Man with the Child in His Eyes"), and the practically required (the requisite Sting cover, thankfully not ...

Sounding like it was recorded at a leisurely pace, with all the involved enjoying themselves, the album should be a treat for any Cole fan, even though there is only one original song: the classy, Al Green-inspired "5 Minutes Away."

    A New, WONDERFUL Natalie

Ms. Cole has proven herself to be FANTASTIC once again in any genre she chooses to sing! This album goes back closer to her R&B roots and the songs that she chose to be on this album are second to none! Her cover of Aretha Franklin's "Day Dreaming" is awesome! Her voice is in pristine condition! Ms. Cole will definitely gain a new audience with this album!! Congratulations, Natalie!!

GIVE HER THE GRAMMY NOW. ABSOLUTE POW!

This is my first review of a Natalie album. I've enjoyed her work for many years here and there. I do own a best of Capitol Recordings to have "Someone That I Use To Love" the CD DANGEROUS for the great title dance track and "Nobody's Soldier" I'M READY with her Epic sides the heavenly UNFORGETTABLE and STARDUST tributes to her Dad, EVERLASTING, GOOD TO BE BACK, and even the previous Verve release. All very nice. I popped this baby into the car player and "KABOOM". Ultra soul and pop handled to the absolute best. Covers or not, this is a great album, especially Criminal, Old Man, The More You Do It, Man With The Child In His Eyes, the new song - 5 Minutes Away, and a song I always wanted, but never got, You Gotta Be. She converts a pop favorite of mine, Lovin' Arms (Loving Arms) into a soul classic. You'd need to compare the difference between Petula Clark's 1976 AC hit single to this version. Lovin' Arms has been done by many in a pop-folk style. Natalie breathes such new life into it, she's made it her own. I'm so pleased I bought this album and really think Natalie has a huge chance of a Best R&B Performance Female Grammy. So so good!

    I'm loving this CD

I had the opportunity to see Ms.Natalie at the Viper Room and ofcourse she brought down the house. Her impeccable voice has a nice way of keeping you wanting to hear more. She is very engaging by singing to you and not at you.

    I'm Lovin' Natalie's latest release - Leavin'

I really enjoy listening to Leavin' which is Natalie's latest release. It's not straight out R&B, but it's got great tunes on it. I usually just let the CD run through all of the songs because each song brings a different flavor of music. However, I have narrowed down four favorites on the CD which are "The More You Do It (The More I Like It Done)," "Day Dreaming," "Leavin,' and "5 Minutes Away." For those who think they may not like the CD, give it a try. I believe you'll like it. Also, catch her live show. She not only makes great music, you'll see how awesome she is during her live concerts too.
