Over the years, Orange County the suburban California county that's south of Los Angeles and north of San Diego has often been the butt of jokes among L.A. residents; the Beverly Hills/Santa Monica/West Hollywood crowd has even been known to call Orange County "Behind the Orange Curtain," which is sort of like Manhattan residents having a laugh at New Jersey's expense. But all those "Orange Curtain" jokes don't erase the fact that Orange County has, in the alternative rock era, given the world some impressive bands, ranging from No Doubt to Nice to Under the Starry Sky. Another noteworthy Orange County act is Something Corporate, which brings strong power pop instincts to this debut album, Leaving Through the Window. These Southern Californians favor a style of alternative pop
ock that's punky yet vulnerable and introspective, with frontman Andrew McMahon anchoring many songs on his weathered upright piano. Given the band's reliance on his flourishes and double-fisted piano pounds, Something Corporate isn't just another emocore band in the blink-182/Fenix TX/A New Found Glory/Sloppy Meateaters vein; truth be told, the guys have more in common with Jimmy Eat World. Something Corporate has enough of a punky, bratty element to appeal to punk-pop and emo tastes, but the group also has a strong love of melody and a sense of craftsmanship that probably was -- as lead singer/pianist Andrew McMahon insists -- influenced to some degree by singer/songwriters like Billy Joel and Elton John. At times, the band's power pop instincts also bring to mind Cheap Trick, although Something Corporate's lyrics are much more melancholy and, during songs like "If You C Jordan" and "Drunk Girl," very indebted to the high school experience. Whomever one chooses to compare Something Corporate to, Leaving Through the Window is among the more memorable and promising alterna-rock efforts of 2002.

The Greatest CD you'll ever purchase!!

Something Corporate is one of the greatest bands of our time. The original sound (punk piano? Come on!!) and the energy and effort they bring to their music makes every last note worth listening to! I am one of those people who can hardly ever listen to a full cd in one sitting, but I can listen to this one three or four times in a row without getting bored! This is a must have cd for anyone who likes pop-punk, emo, alternative rock, indie rock, or even classic rock! The lyrical stylings of Josh and Andrew will you leave you comforted that you aren't alone while the musical talents of all of them (Andrew, Josh, Will, Clutch, and Brian) lull you into another world. AND this is all ignoring the fact that they are the nicest, most down to earth musicians I have ever met, they are so good to their fans and put on SUCH an amazing show...can we say flaming piano?

Something Corporate is a good thing

Dana Point's Something Corporate continues to loom as a genuine contender to be one of the leading artistic and commercial rock outfits of the early 21st century. "Leaving Through the Window" is a rich 14-song collection that delivers on the promise of the band's "Audioboxer" EP.

one of the best bands out right now

i saw SoCo this summer at warped tour in frisco and they were awsome. their 'leaving through the window' album as well as their 'audioboxer' EP are just completely interesting, new, and something completely different from what is out in music today. each song has its own style and when listening to the album you can just rock out or relax, depending how you interpret it. it's so easy to just set the cd player on repeat and listen to the album over and over again. it's a unique and amazing album.

    Leaving Through the Window

The bottom line is that SoCo's second album ''Leaving Through the Window'' is purely amazing. The mixed sounds of pop and punk, combined with the heavy tickle of the piano is what makes the CD surpass all others of this genre. If you're looking for a new sound, but still want that punk rock edge¿then Leaving Through The Window is the next CD you're gonna wanna buy! My favorite song is thefirst hit single ''If U C Jordan'' and also with the other awesome songs ''Punk Rock Princess,'' ''Hurricane,'' and ''Bad Days.'' These guys have raw talent and I even saw them recently at Warped Tour too! This album nothing short of being absolutely spectacular!!!!

Punk with Piano, A pleasent Surprise

I definitely have to give a strong recommendation for Leaving Through the Window. I could not resist the catchy chorus of ¿If You See Jordan¿ and found the rest of the CD to be just as addictive particularly songs like ¿Pop Rock Princess¿ and ¿Hurricane¿. This is by far one of those occasions where none of the songs on the album need to be skipped over. With the strong vocals of lead singer Andrew Macmahon and the ingenious blend of instruments, including the piano, into certain songs give the band an originality all its own. I would recommend this album to anyone, regardless of what genre they prefer. It is not hard to appreciate good music no matter of what kind.

    Great Band

I got into these guys about 8 months ago and have loved them since the fist time i heard them. They are one of the most unique and best bands that i've heard in a long time. They sound like a mix of ben folds, the counting crows, elton john, and a new found glory if you can imagine that. The music is amazing and versatile, and focused around the real, upright piano manned by andrew macmahon. If you dig this check out their indie cd ''ready...break'', its heavier on the piano with a jazzier feel, both are f-ing fantastic though. Amazing stuff.

    Leaving Through the Window

Seeing them this weekend in Anaheim, I knew I needed to buy this sucker. WOW!! What an amazing album!!! These guys have out done themselves, and to think that they are only like 18 is unbelievable considering they've grown so much from where they were a few years back. My favorite song on the album is ''Punk Rock Princess'', but they are all good. I definitely recommend this album to anyone who likes flat out good music.
