Lebanon in Pictures

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
The pictures are nice, but the meat of this book is in the text. The detailed table of contents and the index make it easy to find almost any bit of information about Lebanon's general history, geography, culture, economy, etc. This book is not exciting, but it summarizes general encyclopedia-type factual information for the 5th to 8th grader. Of particular interest are the short biographies of famous Lebanese individuals although the selection criteria are unclear; most are contemporary. The visual-geography web connection links for this title are not yet up on the website, but other book links go to recipes, newspapers, cultural websites, CIA fact books, etc. allowing students easy access to more information. The black highlighting of picture captions and the arrows reaching into the illustrations are unnecessary and annoying. What child needs to have a highway or an ambulance identified by an arrow? 2004, Lerner Publications Company, Ages 9 to 14.
