Leer para Creer! (Read All About It!)

Overview

Children's Literature - Maria E. Gentle
If you have a young child or a student who is just not into books, this is a book for him or her and for you. Laura Bush and Jenna Bush have co-authored this work with the invaluable help of famed illustrator Denise Brunkus. You can tell that both mother and daughter Bush have had teaching experience in the classroom. The language is simple and gets the point across. Tito Lopez is good at most things from helping his mother pull weeds in the garden to solving math problems in the classroom. But there is one thing he just doesn't care for—books. He thinks they are passe. He thinks the library is boring. While the students sit mesmerized by Miss Librus, their teacher, when she reads books, Tito sits at the back doodling on his boot with a pen. All this changes when she reads a book about an astronaut. Tito suddenly is engaged in the story and wants more. Denise Brunkus, illustrator of the popular Junie B. Jones books, will captivate the children with her bold and bright illustrations. A child-friendly book with many little touches that children will surely appreciate, and adults will too. Recommended for both public and school libraries and for any child who may think that reading isn't cool. Reviewer: Maria E. Gentle
