This book is a breath of fresh island air! It is wonderfully unique. While there is a mystery at the heart of it, it's not your typical whodunit. And though it takes place on a fictitious island where magical things seem to happen, it's not fantasy either. It's the smart, funny, and sincere tale of a guy who isn't afraid to defy the conventions of his community (the island of "Oh" in this case) to take on what he considers a real quest. That his quest should hinge on stolen pineapples -- in a place where there are so many pineapples the locals don't know what to do with them all -- is a great example of the believable absurdities that make even the book's darker themes humorous, or at least palatable. Mostly, it's the story of a place so endearing that I wish it were real. I'd get the next flight out! Very highly recommend. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
