Meet the Author

Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn't change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work. She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting New York Times & USA Today Bestselling romance author by night!

Dylan Scott is a New York trial attorney, wife and mother of four. She believes her job as a trial attorney is a subcategory to the field of entertainment more than law. With a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature she believed teaching English was a destined career choice until she realized her life long talent of "argument" could actually be her job. A recent, fairly boring, midlife crisis resulted in a brief stint as a middle school English teacher which confirmed that she wasn't ready to give up the law. Dylan has also taught legal courses at the college level and worked with at-risk inner city youth in the roles of mentor and coach. She is co-author Vi Keeland's biggest fan.

What a refreshing change from the same ole', same ole' books.  Don't misunderstand - Left Behind had all the classic, timeless elements of a great book- intrigue, emotion, witty banter, love and desire.  But it was not the same old read.   It was fresh, real and totally captivating. For anyone who wants a book that takes you through all life's many emotions through the perspective of great characters, you should not miss this book!  Easy to give this one FIVE stars!

Left Behind is a young adult standalone romance.  Nikki Fallon hasn't had the easiest life living with her mother and it just got worse. Her mother has passed away just a few months before her eighteenth birthday. With no other family she knows she will have to go into the foster care system. An Aunt she didn't know existed shows up and offers her a home in California with her. Nikki accepts her offer but has an ulterior motive in wanting to go. When she was going through her mother's belongings she learns that she has a sister somewhere out there. Nikki believes California could hold the key to unlock all her mother's secrets. Zack Martin met the love of his life, Emily Bennett at a very young age. She was his everything and even now as the power couple at school, All American football athlete and head cheerleader he notices how much Emily has changed since they were little. One night changes everything and Zack goes into a dark place, isolating himself from everyone. Until he meets a girl that seems to help alleviate his guilt. Fate... When Nikki and Zack's lives collide both feel some type of connection. They form this bond from understanding what each other is going through. As they spend more time together both can't help to fall for one another. Nikki is still searching for answers about her sister. Zack will help her anyway he can. When everything is revealed they learn just how twisted fate can be. I really enjoyed this book. I don't read many young adult books, but I think it's nice to throw one in every now and then. When I first read the synopsis I was intrigued and even though it's a young adult they're some heavy topics throughout this book. The story is slightly predictable but there is also many revelations that I didn't see coming. It is written in dual POVs, which I always love. My rating, I have been trying to keep in mind that this is not my typical read so.... as far as young adult reads go this one deserves a solid 5 stars.

When I think of Vi Keeland, I think of hot and sexy alpha males paired with strong females. As someone who reads young adult, new adult and adult books, I was beyond excited to learn she was branching out to write a young adult novel. I couldn't wait to read it. It's refreshing to know that Vi's writing talents (and those of Dylan Scott) extend far beyond steamy new adult.  Left Behind was a beautiful story. It was full of feels and it pulled all kinds of emotions out of me. My heart absolutely ached for both Nikki and Zack. They were too young to deal with all that life had thrown each of their way. Nikki was so lost. But, she was still so strong. Her life had been through a major upheaval but she handled everything with maturity far beyond her age. Zack's story broke my heart, too, but in another way. I felt bad for the amount of guilt he carried with him, and I understood it, but it wasn't until he started trying to get back out there that I really found myself rooting for him.  Something magical happened when Nikki and Zack met. Of course, I can't get too much into it because of spoilers, but their pairing was powerful. It was like they had each found the connection they had been missing for so long, in each other. They were an easy couple to cheer for and I found myself completely invested in their story from the start. Hence the emotions and tears as I read the story.  Now, I have to be honest here and say that I guessed the majority of what some might have considered to be twists or reveals before they happened. I don't know that they were meant to come as huge surprises, or if these moments were just smaller parts of the overall story, but none of them were particularly shocking to me. So yes, some might consider the book predictable, but when the writing is this good and the story this gorgeous, I don't care how predictable it might be.  I sincerely hope this isn't Vi's last young adult book and that it's not the last time she works with Dylan, either. I'll definitely be on the lookout from more from both of them. You know what would make a great start? A new adult follow-up featuring the characters from this book. I feel like there could be more story here, particularly with some of the secondary characters (*cough* Keller and Ashley *cough*).  I received a copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review.

A very poignant New Adult story. Nothing at all like I was expecting from Vi Keeland, but very enjoyable read. And I was unfamiliar with Dylan Scott, guess I'll have to check out her other work?

Left Behind by Vi Keeland and Dylan Scott is a story where, if you were NOT a believer in fate and The Powers That Be, this will totally change your mind. The story of Left Behind by Vi Keeland and Dylan Scott is one of loss and tragedy involving two different people, but somehow brings them together. Nikki Fallon has not had an easy life. For as long as she can remember, her life has always been about moving around with her mom, and taking care of her mom who suffered from Diabetes and bi-polar disorder. But one terrible day, Nikki finds herself alone in the world, her only connection, her mother, deceased. Afraid of what will happen once she goes into the system in foster care, Nikki finds out that she’s not as alone as she thought she was. She has aunt who lives in California…and she has a twin sister. The need to find the truth envelopes Nikki, and a new chapter in her life begins. Zack Martin has it all. Popularity, QB in his high school football team, and the hottest most beautiful girlfriend that he’s known since childhood. But Zack is getting tired of the now Emily, and craves for the Emily he knew from his youth. But little does Zach know that fate has a plan for him…one that is riddled with emotions and complications. Sometimes, when you’re going through something terrible, like the loss of a loved one, and you’re so lost and drowning in your emotions, it takes one person who has suffered as much as you have, to pull out of the dark. That’s what you will see when you read Left Behind by Vi Keeland and Dylan Scott. This book was like an emotional roller coaster, and the pages just flew by! It was super obvious to me what the twist in the book was going to be. Whether or not that was intentional, I’m not sure, but that didn’t stop me from continuing on to see how the story played out. And I’m so glad I did. The story was, just simply, beautiful. It’s a story that I hope becomes a movie. I would love to see this played out on the big screen. The writing was easy to follow, and it was so full of emotions. And the characters are ones that readers will connect with and understand. Both Zach and Nikki are so likeable that readers won’t be able to tear their eyes away from their budding relationship. I will admit that there was a moment where I did shed a tear or two. That’s what the writing did for me. It completely pulled me into the moment. I felt as though I were right there with the characters, witnessing first hand, the raw emotion of the scene. Fans of contemporary reads with a twisty plot line with really enjoy Left Behind by Vi Keeland and Dylan Scott. If you’re looking for a book to bring out some emotion from you, this is it. I wouldn’t hesitate in reading this one for yourself. You can thank me later.

This was such a great read. Sad and heart breaking at times but mostly I found it super sweet and funny. This was very well written; the story flowed perfectly and was very easy to follow. Vi Keeland and Dylan Cross did an amazing job capturing the emotions and pulling you in from the very beginning. I love reading dual POVs. It gives you insight on the emotions from both sides. Zack and Nikki will have you crying, laughing and touching your heart. Zack is the sweetest guy and I'm so glad that he wasn't the usual player in most stories these days. He was the good guy. The guy who has a huge heart. The guy who makes the perfect boyfriend. And Nikki, who has been through so much but carries herself so well. So brave. I also like that the secondary characters play a huge role in the story. They're a great support system for Zack and Nikki. Zack had Kellar, who is absolutely hysterical. He will make you laugh every time. And Nikki had Ashley, who says the funniest things that will have you laughing out loud. A wonderful story about loss, love and fate.

Left Behind by Vi Keeland and Dylan Scott is a tale of loss, family, secrets and re-connections. It is a beautiful story that slowly weaves together the lives of two different people, slowly showing the deeper connections they have that they weren't even aware of. I was so engrossed in this story I barely even noticed it was about high school aged students. The back and forth between Nikki and Zack's perspectives gradually paint a clear picture of who is connected and how. It's so important to not have any spoilers going in I'm really not sure what to say other than it was a fantastic read. I couldn't put the book down, and I was simultaneously desperate to read more while not wanting it to end.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this book!  Zack and Nikki stole my heart from the very first moment.  The author’s developed these characters so beautifully. They had a wonderful depth, their emotions ran deep, and they were real. There were so many ways that this story could have fallen into the “it’s been done” category, and yet it veered away every time. I loved the subtlety in the drama, rather than the “Kardashian” variety, full of shallow teenage angst.  Nikki displays a rare level of maturity in one her age. A lot of that comes from her need to be an adult before she even hit double digits. But, while the pain is real and can, at times, threaten to consume her, she chooses not to let it keep her from living. I loved how acclimated to her environment, making an effort not to be the invisible loner. She opened herself up to friends, and to an attraction that was unfamiliar, yet comforting.  Zack just went and gave me the warm (ok…maybe a little more than warm sometimes) fuzzies. He is that perfect combination of sweet and sexy, with just enough male confidence to throw a little alpha in there. My heart broke for him when he suffered through such tragic events. I could even understand the guilt he felt when happiness began to seep back into his world.  The authors could have spent the whole book on this path of “on again, off again.” They didn’t. Hallelujah. There is intense emotion in this book, some of it devastating. However, they wrote brilliant scenes filled with happiness that brightened the story and kept me from wanting to put the book down just to get a break from all the anguish.  This story is just beautifully written. Every time I had to put it down, I rushed back to it as quickly as possible. The only complaint I have is that it was too damn short. I wanted more, so much more of Zack and Nikki. I’d love to see the authors bring us Ashley’s story! *hint hint!*  I truly believe that you will thoroughly enjoy this book! For me, it was one of the best reads this year.  A copy of this book was provided to me for a fair and honest review.

4 stars I have to say when I saw the book was YA I was prepared to be disappointed. But Vi Keeland surprised me with this story. This story keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire time. Very emotional and gripping read. You will swing through all you emotions and come out better for the read. This story teaches you all about friendship, love and seconds chances. I recommend this story.

eft Behind is a different read for me. This story was an emotional roller coaster with a HEA.  We first meet Nikki, she is not your average 17 year old. The world is on her shoulders, she has been taking care of her mom and pretty much been the adult to her family. Her mom had struggled with a mental illness “bi-polar” and being diabetic to top it off. You feel so bad for Nikki all she had in the world is her best friend Ashley to help her with everything. One tragic event changes everything for Nikki and she uncovers a letter that has a secret that will play into the story. She does, however, move to from Texas to California to be with aunt, this is where we meet Zack. Zack is a popular boy in school and has everything he could ever want, but something is pushing him back from making a big decision is his life. His decision turns into the next day a tragic event that turns his life upside down.  Nikki and Zack’s world collide! They are both intrigued by one another, but can what happen to both of them end in true happiness? There is a secret that will turn both of their hearts inside out.  This is a page turner that you will not put down!!!!

4.5 stars A beautiful story of loss, coming of age and love, oh so much love!   I’m not sure if I will be able to convey how special this story is, but here goes. The dual POV works well with the authors’ style of writing.  Both Zack and Nikki have distinct voices, allowing the reader to be swept up in their stories.  Zack is full of ego and humor, yet his pain is truly crushing.  Watching as he comes to terms with his loss, coming alive once again and living is stunning.  LOVE when he starts trusting his gut instead of taking everyone else’s advice. Nikki and her fascination with dimples- sigh.  Because who doesn’t love a full set of deep dimples?? Back to my review, her strength is humbling.  So many secrets and she had to be the grown up with her mom, never asking for help or anything for herself. Adore the friends that surround the two of them, Keller and his raunchy humor, Ash as the lifelong bestie who tells it like it is and Allie who is sassy and true.  Very honest in their interactions with Nikki and Zack, good friends to have. The story is well paced, though there are a few points where more detail would’ve been appreciated.  Maybe a bit more doing instead of telling? I also love that this is a book I was able to share with my two teen-aged daughters.  Their insight into the characters as well as the oohing and ahhing tears and laugh out loud quotes was amazing. Growth and maturity often come at some type of emotional loss and the characters in this book dealt with all that was happening with raw emotions and intense honesty.  A stunning portrayal of the ones left behind as well as finding life and love when hope seems out of reach. Kudos! And PERFECT last scene.

In Left Behind, Vi Keeland and Dylan Scott team up to bring you a young adult romance that revolves around a story of tragic loss and restoring hope. Fate.  Nikki spent her life moving around central Texas and taking care of her mother. But when her mother passes, Nikki is not quite yet 18 and is either going to be moved to a foster home or move to California to live with an Aunt she never knew existed.  Zack saw her when he was just nine years old. The girl on the yellow bike, the one he knew he’d love. Eight years later, Emily is still standing next to him. Although she isn’t always the same girl he remembered as a child. One night changes everything, Zack never imagined that life could be so cruel.  Nearly six months have passed when Zack sees her, the girl from the track. The one that makes him feel something again. The one that seems to understand the loss that he feels. Learning to let go of the guilt of feeling something for this girl, Zack begins to fall, more deeply than he knew was possible.  But a new start isn’t the only thing that led Nikki to California. She has a sister, a twin. A piece of her she never knew existed. She knows the answers can be found in California, but nothing could have prepared her the truth that she was going to discover. Although this venture into the genre of Young Adult was a little different than what I’ve come to love from this author, the collaboration with Dylan Scott on this book was very much enjoyed. Even though the twist wasn’t buried too deep in the story, I found that I was still excited to see how it would play out. Both Nikki and Zack were very likable characters and were easily to get lost in. I did feel like I was lacking a bit of an emotional connection at times. There was potential for this to have a very emotional moment, but I think that figuring out the story line early on, turned that moment down a few notches. I was prepared for it, so when it happened I sort of glazed over the emotional impact of it.  The story is told in dual POV’s that start off with giving you a glimpse into both their lives before the move to California and their meeting. I enjoyed being able to be a voyeur into both their lives as this story unfolded. I absolutely loved the little notes, I am sucker for these sweet little gestures in books. Something so simple outshines the grandest of gestures and this just made loving Zack a little easier.  A wonderfully told coming of age Young Adult romance that shines a little bit of light in the darkness of loss and shows you that not all hope is lost when you lose someone you love. That sometimes things happen a certain way, in the most crushing ways, to bring you something so beautiful that the all the pain is worth it, because without it you wouldn’t have experienced the love.  This change in scenery for VK was refreshing and although I love her more adult titles, I would definitely not hesitate to pick up another YA title if she ever decides to write another. After all, Keller and Ash might just have a story that is yet to be discovered. Left behind was a very sweet romance that left me with a wide smile on my face and my heart feeling a little lighter. A love story of two kids where the usual angst and drama fueled story lines didn’t exist because their own experiences were enough to drive the story forward.
