Overview

"Arun Gandhi is the fifth grandson of the late Indian spiritual and political leader Mahatma Gandhi." Born in 1934 in South Africa, where he was subject to the daily injustices of apartheid, and raised in a family dedicated to nonviolent social reform, Dr. Gandhi writes with rare authority and insight. His narrative draws primarily upon the experiences as a youth in India, where he lived with his grandfather during the last eighteen months of the Mahatma's life. During the tumultuous period of Indian history, the elder Gandhi set aside one hour each day for his grandson, imparting to him through stories and exercises his teachings in the areas of nonviolence, truth, anger, humility, discipline, morality and spirituality. Legacy of Love records many of these profound lessons, and others that the author learned from his mother and father as they applied the principles of nonviolent parenting.
