Can love really conquer all?—Book Six in Katy Evans’s breakout New York Times bestselling series that began with REAL.

Maverick “The Avenger” Cage wants to rise to the top and become a legend in the ring. Though he keeps his identity well guarded, he’s known on the fighting circuit as the new kid with a chip on his shoulder and a tattoo on his back that marks him as trouble. He’s got a personal score to settle with the Underground’s one and only Remington “Riptide” Tate.

As Mav trains, he meets a young girl—the only other new person in the town—and sparks fly. When things get heated between them, he finds out she’s none other than Reese Dumas, the cousin of Remington Tate’s wife. A girl who’s supposed to root against him and a girl he’s supposed to stay away from.

But Mav fights for the woman in his heart and the monsters in his blood. The world’s eyes are on them, and the victor will go down in history as the ultimate fighting champion—the ultimate LEGEND.

Legend

  • Reese

My mother drops me off at the airport. I’m wearing my favorite pair of jeans and my favorite top. For luck, I guess.

“You sure you’ll be all right?”

    “I’m sure.”

“Reese.” She stops me before I can get out of the car, taking my hand. “I love you. . . .”

“I love you too.” I smile at her.

She leans over to hug me, and I close my eyes and cling for an extra beat. She smells of lemons. Like home, like everything I know.

“Do you have your passport, ticket confirmation . . . ?”

I nod, and hop out and get my suitcase.

I turn and wave goodbye to her, a pang of homesickness already hitting me as I watch her drive away.

Inhaling, I step into the airport on my own for the first time in my life.

Between boarding and flight times, it takes over four hours for me to arrive in Seattle. The plane circled an extra half hour until the rain stopped and we were authorized to land. It’s wet and green. My cousin Brooke meets me outside the terminal.

“Reese!” With a tall ponytail, skintight spandex running pants, and a killer body beneath, she looks like she could’ve stepped out of Sports Illustrated. “So glad to have you.” She hugs me tight before introducing me to a tall, curly-haired man standing next to her. “This is Pete.”

“Nice to meet you, Reese,” he says as he reaches for my suitcase. “Welcome to the team.”

    “Thank you for having me.”

If Brooke has any reservations about having me around for the whole summer, she doesn’t show it. She’s excited and talkative during our ride, answering all my questions on how I can help her with her three-year-old, Racer.

At the tip of the cul-de-sac we reach their sprawling waterfront home in Lakehaven, with its stucco facade, sweeping rooftop, and manicured lawn.

I’m speechless, taking in the interior of the house with wide eyes as she gives me a brief tour. Smart technology everywhere, five bedrooms, a kitchen fit for a restaurant. It’s got high windows and a lot of natural light, with views of Mount Rainier across a glistening stretch of water.

Brooke leads me down the hall to the guest bedroom. The hall has framed pictures of famous athletes, and among them, there’s a picture labeled riptide and I try not to gape at it, because I know Riptide is her widely known husband, former boxer and now MMA fighter. Even people who’ve never heard about MMA fighting seem to know who he is. Mom says they call him RIP too, because he kills his opponents. Not literally kills. Well, I hope not. But he buries them in the ground. Online, the articles say that he’s a fighting machine, and the best there’s ever been.

We finally reach my bedroom and I am tempted to ask Brooke if she’s ever lost her way in her own house. The room’s double the size of my bedroom back home, exquisitely decorated in light tones, with a tinge of pastel blue on the curtains and on the bedspread.

“Here’s a gym membership card; we buy them by the dozen for the team. You’re part of the family now.” She winks. “Food in the fridge, clean towels in the bathroom, bed has brand-new sheets. Cell phone?”

    “Yes.”

“Okay. Your mom gave you my number, right?”

We confirm each other’s numbers. It’s been a while since I talked to her. I’m normally shy and not very talkative at all. I guess Brooke knows. I’m sure my mom has filled her in on everything that’s happened in my life, from birth to now, just as she let me know that Brooke married Remington “Riptide” Tate.

They’re a power couple in the wellness and athletic worlds, a power couple in their own right.

My mom thought I’d be invigorated spending time with them and their team as they work the underground fighting circuit this summer. She suggested I come when I asked her to let me figure out what I wanted to do with my life.

And now here I am, trying to find who I am.

I start unpacking, neatly putting my things into a drawer, and after I hang some of my clothes in the closet, I pass the window and stare out at the water as Brooke approaches a tall, dark-haired man hoisting a little kid up on his shoulders. I know it’s her husband and son.

I haven’t seen little Racer since Christmas, and I’ve never met Brooke’s husband, but he’s got a presence as big as his reputation, even from here. Remy Tate is as big as a mountain, and seated on his shoulders his son seems to be on top of the world. Many things have been said about the famous Riptide, hot and masculine prevalent among them. Racer is pummeling the top of his father’s head, and Remy is holding him by his little feet, staring out at the long dock and toward the water as Brooke comes up and puts her arms around Remy’s waist.

I smile when I look at them. They travel so much due to his fighting schedule, I don’t see them that often, but we’re family. They look at peace, and happy. Racer starts squirming over his dad and pointing out at the water as if he wants to get on a boat.

Racer. My ticket out of town. Someone to worry about other than me.

I think of Miles and a prick of pain hits me. Maybe being away will make him miss me. Being away will make him realize he feels something other than friendship for me.

We communicate, but not as much as I’d like.

    Hey I got here safely

    Good. Enjoy yourself, Reesey

    Thanks I’ll be good

I wait to see if he asks me anything. He doesn’t. I curl up in bed, staring at my phone, then text my mom to let her know I’m in Seattle.

Reese and Maverick have personal issues that are so understandable and relatable. This is a journey of self-discovery for them. They need to find their places in this world. Both are decent and good. The sweetness of this story was surprising for me. Maverick is a big, tough fighter with much to prove, but he had a handle on the romance and winning me over almost immediately. Oz and Racer are side characters who caught my attention a lot. Oz has his own personal battle going on which touched me, and Racer is totally adorable. Of course I knew Remy's son would be. I absolutely worship Remy. I was super excited when I discovered he was going to be a significant character in this story. After reading it, all I can think is how it is the perfect final book in this series. Remy will forever have my heart. This is a must read for every fan of the Real series. I loved it.

Every time I read a Katy Evans book, I fall a little more in love with her writing and her characters. Fighter/MMA romance books are not my favorite genre, but Katy could write about a dirty, smelly bum and make him look sexy! On one side, you have the Maverick who is aggressive and violent in the ring, but then you have the Maverick who is soft and sensual, and handles Reese with such intimate perfection. How can you NOT fall in love with all of that? Great plotline, dynamic characters and explosive sexual tension are just a few things to look forward to in this book. If you haven't read any of the other books in this series, I would highly recommend you read them because, well, it's Katy Evans! But if you haven't or want to just dive right into this one, you can do so without missing anything. I haven't had a chance to read any of the other books in this series yet, but I still was able to fully love and enjoy Legend. It's hard to sum up in words how much I love a Katy Evans book, so I'll just take a quote out of this book, that sums them all up perfectly. "Toe-curling. Panty-melting. Heart-pounding. Breathtaking."

I am going to go out on a limb and say this is the best book Katy Evans has ever written. I know, I know how could I do that to Remy??? Well, here's my answer: Remy will ALWAYS old a very special place in my heart, and every damn time Iris comes on the radio or my phone I am overcome with emotions for Brooke and Remy. But Legend is an epically, stunning novel. Ms. Evans has created a legacy with Maverick and Reese. These two instill the happiness, hope and faith the the characters will eternally stay with readers. It's a bittersweet, tear-inducing book that I could not have asked to be better. It's just not possible. Remy and Brooke are ever-present as they groom the new generation hot, steamy, sweet, all-consuming fighter and his girl couple. Maverick learns the very best lesson from Remy - you do it for her and your love and you life. Not to prove yourself to others. Not for the money. And not for spite. It's a tough lesson to learn. Maverick and Reese are just the epic couple. They're not perfect, but they're perfect together, and what really touched me was the active hand that Brook and Remy had in this book. The passing of the torch. The lessons and love learned. Katy Evans could not have ended this series better. While I would give anything for the series to continue on with more Remy, Brooke, Racer and the whole group, it's come to an end in the most spell-bounding way. A note for readers: PLEASE read Katy's note at the end of the book. It offers a bit more insight to where the characters are after The End. Also this book is a standalone. While you will enjoy it much more if you have read the previous books, it stands just as well on its own two feet. As I said, it's a bittersweet, but highly impressive and heart melting end to what was already a stunning series. You will not, and CANNOT miss this book. So go forth and devour the book that I'm sure will have readers talking for months. As for me, I'm naming this and early top favorite of 2016. It will take massive amounts of amazing-ness to top it.

ALL THE STARS IN THE SKY!!!!!!!!!!! This book is just amazing! Actually every Katy Evans books are more amazing every time! This story isn't about an end its about a legend that'll be forever remembered and forever talked about as will this book! I was scared going into this book because I didn't want this series to end I love it to pieces and feel apart of the series!! That's how amazing her writing is! so I ask you what makes a legend? his strength? his background? his money? or is it his love of the sport? I think its his power to come over and never give up! Legend aren't an overnight success it take a lot to become who you consider a legend! Maverick is just a fighter with a weight on his back and he figures out how to power it and he falls in love. The ending of the series but the beginning of a legend is this book and I CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT KATY EVANS AS UP HER SELEVE FOR MORE! 100% ADDICTED!!!! MUST BUY LIKE RIGHT NOW! ONE-CLICK!!!

Katy Evans just practically nailed it. I loved her 6th and final installment of the REAL series. It’s hard to say goodbye to the characters we have loved and rooted for since we started Real, but her goodbye was beautiful enough that it was sort-of bittersweet for me. Maverick “The Avenger” Cage wanted to fight. He wanted to win, to become a legend, to be someone other than his father’s son. But no one would give him the time of the day – especially with the tattoo on his back that already marked him as trouble. He wanted to face the Underground’s champ, Riptide, but first, he needed to enter the fighting circuit. Our girl is new in town, and she’s trying to find herself. The moment they met – sparks flew. But problem is – she’s the cousin of Remington Tate’s wife. Someone he should stay away from and shouldn’t be involved with. But our boy knew how to fight, and he will fight for the one he wants – even if it’s almost impossible, even if she was way beyond his reach. Because this girl – was everything he ever wanted. I love Reese – she’s careful, after what she has been through, it’s understandable. She’s trying to find herself, and didn’t expect to find Maverick along the way. What she went through – surprised the heck out of me. But it didn’t make me think of her less. This is a strong woman who had faced her demons, fought against them and won. She’s one amazing woman. No wonder Maverick is crazy about her. This was pretty much intense, perhaps because both of our characters prefer silence and their thoughts were pretty much powerful. Our characters are complex, strong and passionate with everything they do. When they have a goal in mind, they do everything to achieve it – whether its love or its about the fighting. I love the ending – which pretty much caught me off guard, and yet felt real. Yes, it wouldn’t have been real if it was a draw, someone should win, and Katy, it was a fight so beautifully choreographed and directed that I wasn’t sure who’d win, and who’d lose. But I guess, Katy made the right decision when she chose the winner. It was something we all have been waiting for – and THAT moment, THAT chapter, THAT paragraph gave me all the feels. Surprising friendships developed, interesting twists and turns of events, romantic and steamy love affair makes this one a REAL page-turner and something you wouldn’t let go of until you are done reading. Katy Evans made one heck of a book that would make you swoon and weak-on –the-knees.

5 star I was pulled right into this story. I read the story in one sitting. The story has laughs, tears, secrets, and heartbreak. If you have not read the below I would recommend reading that first: Real (Real, #1) Mine (Real, #2) Remy (Real, #3) Rogue (Real, #4) Ripped (Real #5) This is Reese and Maverick “the Avenger” Cage’s story. Maverick is trying to make it in the fighting world but no one is willing to give him a chance once they find out who his father is. He meets Reese when she rescues him from getting tossed from a gym. They spend time together but don’t really get to know everything about each other. They are both trying to overcome things in their past. As he fights his way to the top he wonders if Reese will be cheering for him. When who they really are comes out will it be the end of them? Or will it be just the beginning of something beautiful? Emma is sweet but shy. Maverick is strong but sweet. I love the chemistry between these two. You can fell the entire rollercoaster of emotions that these two take you on. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book, this series, and this author.

Absolutely PERFECT! This final book could not have been any better. It started with Remington and ended with Maverick! I loved the relationship between the two fighters. I honestly didn't know who I wanted to win that championship...it ended as it should have. What a ride this series was...I loved every minute!

“He looks at me as if he’s been waiting for me for a long time. I feel like I too have been waiting for him for long time. It makes no sense. It’s just a look, and just a feeling. You never know what really lies under a look and you can’t apply reason to every feeling. But it’s all there. Tangible, palpable. As though there’s a string between us, one end in him, and the other end in me.” “I want to be a legend. Legends never die. Even if they die alone.” What an amazing ride. Legend is the sixth book in the Real series and it reminded me of exactly why I fell in love with this series. The Real Series was my first venture into MMA romances. From the moment I picked up that first book, I was hooked. And with each book, I fell more in love with this series. Legend is no exception. Legend is a truly special read. The writing pulled me in from the very first page and reminded me of exactly why I fell in love with this series in the first place. Legend follows the story of Maverick and Reese and is told from dual points of view. Maverick has struggled with who is and what he will become, his entire life. He’s always felt broken because he had a father who didn’t want him. Yes, he had an amazing mother, but he wanted to prove to his father and to the world that he was worth something. Only proving himself might be harder than Maverick ever thought possible. The identity of who is father is, is hurting him, more than helping him. No one wants to take a chance on him. And all Maverick wants is that chance. The chance to rise above what everyone thinks of him….Reese Dumas is trying to figure out her life. She’s at a crossroads and desperately wants to find who Reese really is. So, when she gets an opportunity to help out her cousin and her husband Remy, she jumps on it. A change of scenery might just be what she needs. What she didn’t plan on was Maverick. She’s drawn to him in a way that she’s never been drawn to a man before. She knows she should stay away, but she just can’t. The chemistry between the two of them is undeniable. They both have demons that they are trying to fight and deserve a HEA. When the truth about who Maverick really is comes out, will Reese stay in his corner?? What can I say about Legend? Here’s what I can tell you…This book is well-written and captivating. It pulls you in instantly. The story-line is refreshing and makes you believe in second chances and to not judge someone based on who their family is. I loved Reese and Maverick together. Reese gave Maverick a chance when no one else did. She gave him hope and made him want to fight for the things that he wanted. She showed him that he deserved more and that she could look past who his family was. I adored Maverick. He had so much rejection in his life and instead of letting it get him down, he worked hard to prove everyone wrong and make something of himself. And the chemistry between Reese and Maverick was off the charts. I loved their dynamic and the push & pull they had. I loved every single second of Legend. It exceeded my expectations. This story is filled with angst, romance, and drama. The characters are real and complicated. They are so easy to connect with and so easy to root for. I really enjoyed spending more time with Remy and Brooke. It warmed my heart to see just how far those two have come. Legend is a fantastic addition to the Real Series. It not only gave me an amazing story, but it gave me the best possible ending to one of my favorite series.

I (along with thousands of others) fell in love with Remington "Riptide" Tate in Katy Evans Real Series from the get-go, and while I am saddened to see the series end, Evans couldn't have ended it on a better note. Not only do we get to see Remy again in Legend, but we get to meet Maverick Cage, who is my favorite hero, second to Remy, in this entire series. I just loved him. He's all kinds of hot alpha male with a lot of angst, a lot of passion, and underneath it all is a really sweet, sexy, and definitely intense guy. When you find out who he is, and if you're familiar with the series, you'll appreciate Legend and the way Evans chose to close out the series even more. The female lead in Legend is Remy's wife Brooke "Dumas" Tate's cousin, Reese Dumas. Reese is great to, though shy and very uncertain of herself and her beauty, I enjoyed seeing her come out of her shell with Maverick Cage. I admired her even more as the story progresses and one of her secrets is revealed, showing her to have a huge amount of courage and strength, and adding depth to her character. The romance and the way it was developed between Reese and Maverick was wonderfully done. One of the things I enjoyed most was the fact that Maverick Cage had eyes only for Reese. There was never any temptation, cheating, or thoughts thereof on his part, something that was both refreshing, made me love him even more, and made me love this book even more as well. So many romances factor this sort of thing into a novel, especially one with a lead like Maverick Cage, to make the story more intense, but Katy Evans (you go girl), made Maverick Cage and Legend one of the best books ever, without even a hint of infidelity, yet all the suspense and romantic intensity you could ask for, proving it to to be not only a great all-around romance, but also showing what a talented and creative writer that Evans is. Fans of the series will love legend, as well as contemporary romance fans in general. Definitely check this one out.

I have been looking forward to reading this story for what seems like ages. I absolutely adored the first three books in this series and was anxious to see if I would like this new fighter that was giving Remy a run for his money. I am happy to report that Legend surpassed my expectations. Legend is an amazing book and a fantastic way to end a great series. It's a touching and powerful read that is sure to capture the hearts of romance lovers everywhere. Though I will always hold Remy in a special place in my heart, I think Legend and Maverick might be my new favorite book/hero. This story is unbelievably romantic and off-the-charts sexy. Katy Evans sucks you in with both her writing and her characters. Characters that seem so REAL! You can't help but fall in love with them along the way. The two main characters, Maverick and Reese, are both well developed and complexed, far from perfect- each with their own sets of problems and troubled pasts. It's interesting to see them overcome certain obstacles in order to be with each other. Though Legend can be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading the first three books in this series (Real, Mine & Remy) as characters from those books play a large role in Legend. I loved the chance to catch up with Remy and Brooke and enjoyed their roles in Legend. Though I am sad to see this series end, I have loved spending time with all of these characters and can't wait to read their stories again! These are a must read for anyone that loves a gritty, sexy contemporary romance with characters that will steal your heart.

I absolutely love this series you guys. I remember the first time I read Real back in the day and I was just so completely in love with the characters and the MMA world. Now that the last book is here, I won't lie- I was quite nostalgic. We got to see so much of Remy and Brooke in this one and that really made my heart happy. The ending was SO fitting and I couldn't have asked for a better ending to this series. It made sense and completely ended the way it was meant to. I also love that Katy included an update in her author's note for the characters as well.
