Meet the Author

R.A. Salvatore

As one of the fantasy genre's most successful authors, R.A. Salvatore enjoys an ever-expanding and tremendously loyal following. His books regularly appear on The New York Times bestseller lists and have sold more than 10,000,000 copies. Salvatore's first published novel, The Crystal Shard in 1988, became the first volume of the acclaimed Icewind Dale Trilogy and introduced an enormously popular character, the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden. Since that time, Salvatore has published numerous novels for each of his signature multi-volume series.

Good To Know

Well, I just turned 50, but I'm still a clean-up hitter on the softball field. A couple of years ago, I found myself in horrible shape and feeling lousy all the time, and so, with the help of my wonderful and beautiful wife of 25 years, I started taking my health seriously again. Now I feel better than I did when I was 40. Fit Camp three times a week and yoga and softball and all the rest.

The other thing that I've come to learn about myself is that R. A. Salvatore and Bobby Salvatore are two different people (and I much prefer Bobby, thank you very much). It's not that I lie to readers at book signings, or anything like that, it's just that the things that are important to me are the little things in life: my family, my home. Writing is what I do, but it's not who I am. I remember one time about 20 years ago, I went back to where I had worked to see my brother, who still worked there. Gary was a few years older, and was, of course, my hero. An associate found us in the parking lot and nudged my brother, asking him what it felt like to have a younger brother who was so much more successful than he.

Gary, of course, took it all in stride, turning what might have been an awkward moment into a joke. Gary died a few years later and I'll never forget the lines of mourners -- grown men crying like babies. He was such a big part of the community, as a friend and a coach to so many kids over the years.

That brought me back to the parking lot and the awkward moment, and the truth of it all: I was not and have never been more successful than my brother, and nothing I can do as a writer will get me there. Only the things I do as a human being, a father, a neighbor, a friend, can bring me into his league.

    Love this series

I love this series. I love how R.A Salvatore creates his characters. I picke dup the first book and ened reading all three books by the end of the week. That was how much i enjoyed them. That is why I am currently saving up enough money to rest of the Dark elf series and then more books written by R.A Salvatore. If you are looking for fun read and a book that will get you hooked within the first chapter, I recommend ready this series.

    Can't say enough good things

This is an amazing series. I picked it up because of the favorable reviews of others. I tend to read more sci-fi than fantasy so this was stepping out a little for me. I LOVE all the charaters and feel like I know them...especailly after reading 10 books in a row over the course of almost a year. I can't put the books down and try to order the next book before I finish the one I am on. I had to wait for this last set to be released and am beside myself. I felt like I had an endless pool from which to drink and now I'm nearing the end. I love Drizzt and the depth of all the characters. Salvatore has created another WORLD and I visit often. I am female 40 yo and sure if a lot of females read this type of book but it appeals to me, regardless. VERY easy to read. I HIGHLY recommend this entire series (Forgotten Realms: Drizzt)though some books are stronger than others. I would never pick and choose books and suggest that you read through the entire series...beginning to end to truly get the depth of the characters and the relationships. I would love to meet the author. He is a master at what he does. I think my husband got tired of hearing me talk about it but I had to talk to someone about what was going on in the books! I pick up other books but none compare :(

    Fan's of D&D

If your looking to improve your D&D game or just a great read, this book is for you.

As a newbie to D&D I learned quite a bit and got my imagination fueled by this series. Excellent book, well written, with enough strategy and character description to really keep you engaged as well as improve your game.
