This slightly odd three-disc set collects work from Jimmy Witherspoon, Champion Jack Dupree, and Eddie Cleanhead Vinson, giving each artist a disc each. Each disc has its merits, and Witherspoon's in particular includes many of his finest recordings. Bill Dahl provides excellent liner notes, but one gets the feeling that Legends of the Blues isn't the cohesive package it might have been. It's noticeable that Vinson's selection is not the strongest, nor are the very best versions of, say, "In the Evening" and "One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer" chosen on the Dupree volume. JSP are renowned for their sonic fidelity, and each of these discs sounds fantastic, and as a budget option will appeal to many fans of the blues.
